In summary

Southern Hills Golf Course is frequently praised for its well-maintained grounds, beautiful scenery, and challenging layout that offers a mix of forgiving and demanding holes. The staff is often described as friendly and accommodating, enhancing the overall experience. However, some visitors have reported issues with communication and scheduling, particularly regarding tournament arrangements, and noted that certain facilities, like tee boxes and cart paths, could use improvements.

This is the best, well-cared for public course dollar/fun per yard. The front nine takes you through a challenging yet forgiving need for fades and draws. It advances every skill level with options to cut for a 150yd iron shot or to play it safe with the hybrid fairway. The elevation changes provides players with high five opportunities going around and over hills. The back nine feels like the course designer went off leash. The opportunities to be alone out in the wild teeing off into unforgiving yet playful landscape is of a dream. Taking risks on shots are rewarded though trouble if not str…

First time playing this course and first time playing “up North” this year. It’s always difficult switching from “thicker” Arizona greens to northern greens and this course was a somewhat expected shock! The staff was very welcoming and took the time to explain the course layout since it was our first visit. Some of the hole to hole transitions are confusing indeed! We found really nice, fast, contoured greens that got the best of us. Overall a really well maintained course, but it does have multiple personalities! The predictable traditional layout of the front nine lulled us into comfort and…

The course has beautiful views! The pro shop staff was friendly and very helpful. Course was in pretty good shape given the fact that its October. Will definitely go again!

Really enjoyed the course. Course is on the shorter side, but no way easier. Elevation changes cause some greens to be blind, thus if you haven't played here before you might have difficulty hitting the green ... I kept over shooting the green on a lot of the holes. But the course was in great condition, nice views, friendly staff ... all made our trip all the way from Maryland worth it.

This a truly a gem!! I only regret that we only find time to golf here once or twice a year.. Especially since we live an hour away.. The course is maintained very well, the greens had recently been aeratred. That wasn’t ideal but it’s all important for beautiful greens.. That’s the good news.. if you want a challenge. Then take on these greens.. Anyway it’s like golfing 2 different courses between the front and back 9 and it’s a day we look forward to when we golf here.. ALSO your Clubhouse Manager definitely deserves big Koodos

The course is beautiful! But what we found refreshing was the staff at the Pro Shop. Very friendly and welcoming. We also visited with a couple that lived there and they too were very friendly and welcoming. We will make this an annual stop going forward!

Not sure who's running this place but its a mess. Drove all the way up from Rapid for a tee time we put in on Thursday for a Saturday 8 am. Soon as we get there we are told we have to start at the back nine because of a tournament being run at 11. No one told us of any tournament on Thursday when we called. Started the back nine came all the way around the tournament was already being started told we could play back 9 again. No refund after paying for 18. Needless to say I won't be back. $100 plus 2 hours of driving for the same nine is shameful. Two stars only because the place is beautiful…

Spent the week in the Black Hills and looked for courses to play in the area and this.one looked the.most scenic, it was! Even saw a few deer during.my round. Price was a little high but course was in great condition. Greens were firm but receptive, rolled true and not too fast. Fairways are tight, greens are small. Some tee boxes could be fixed (leveled), cart paths need some work. Would have liked a more detailed scorecard, yardage to bunkers or landing areas would be helpful for first time visitors. Found myself teeing off with my 3 & 5 woods, my driver would go through the fairway even whe…

Beautiful golf course. Great condition. But they need to get a ton of no sunflower seed signs out there. The greens were covered.

As always, Jill & crew did a fabulous job accommodating the "Geezers" from Tomahawk Golf Course! Everything from helping us find the back nine holes for our shotgun start to taking a group picture, to a great buffet lunch, we had a great day and are looking forward to coming again next year!

Super cool little course. Beautifully maintained even in the dry season. Lots of cool holes and challenging shots. Super friendly staff. Need to go back and try to play better!
