In summary

Southern Pines Golf Club is frequently praised for its challenging Donald Ross design, with many golfers appreciating the course's layout, elevation changes, and well-maintained greens. The recent renovations have been well-received, enhancing the overall experience and showcasing the course's historic charm. However, some visitors have noted issues such as inconsistent bunker conditions, slow pace of play, and high green fees, which may not align with the expectations set by its premium pricing.

Incredible course, very challenging greens and approach shots. This was the first course we played of our golf trip this year, was in good condition. I’m a 4 handicap and found this to a be very challenging, 15+ handicaps might have a difficult time playing this course.

Golf course was in good condition. First time playing and had a great time. Partially due to the fact I aced hole 14 but aside from that overall a nice track. If you’ve played an D. Ross course before then you’ll know. Only real complaint would have been pace of play was fairly slow. Will be back.

Expectations set high for a $250 round (x 2). Greens were firm and in beautiful shape. The rest of the course was a 4 out of ten at best. Layout was terrific but sand traps inconsistent; some wet, some dry, some lacking sand. Facility was 100 years old. Dated and nothing spectacular at all. Pro Shop a 3. Really expected more out of a $500 day. Not recommended. Mid-Pines tomorrow and I have heard good things so I will let you know.

4.5 stars. A really difficult course with endless elevation and bunkers. Originally opened in 1906. No easy holes! Not for beginners. First time players will have difficulty in figuring the lie of the greens. Course was closed a long time but was renovated and reopened two years ago. Course is in excellent condition.

I’ve played golf all across the country. This is one of my favorite courses I’ve ever played if not, my favorite ever. Absolutely amazing layout. What an amazing job they did on the restoration of this Ross design! Greens were in pristine condition, every inch of the course was maintained beautifully! Will be back many more times! This truly is a gem.

Up and coming Donald Ross gem!! Course has been undergoing lots of renovations this past year. Tees, fairways and greens are in decent shape. Greens are slower right now then other local courses but for only being 5-6 months old they are rolling really well! Only real negative is temporary cart paths so things get bottled up in a few spots and hard to know where you are going! Once they get paths finished and start refining everything else course will really take off! Reasonable rates now but I expect them to double or triple in the coming year or so!

Played Pine Needles yesterday and Southern Pines today. PN was a 5 but SP was a 3 at best. FYI I’ve played over 300 rounds in the past 18 months. Def a great old track but overall condition was poor. Especially their bunkers. Our group simply astounded about how bad of condition they were. A 3 out of 10 at the very best. Awful actually. Cannot believe they think $240/pp is a fair price for this place. Greens were dreadfully slow to boot. Would not go back sadly. Had heard great things over the years about SP.

What a fantastic course! The new renovation opened up the course to show off its exceptional original Donal Ross design, with a fresh new take from Kyle Franz. Green complexes are awesome, the evening light is as good as it gets in Pinehurst. A must visit.

$220 and we were not able to finish our round because they packed the tee times in, only able to get 15 holes in with a 2:15 tee time. Carts do not have GPS and the halfway house was out of food on the turn. Saw the cart girl once the whole round. Save your money and play one of the $80-$100 courses in the same area that are just as nice.

They claim their shop website has been hacked but make no effort to tell you that across any form of social media or any other website that they operate, I made a purchase, never showed up, and they’ve proceeded to give me the run around like this is my fault. Great course, don’t buy from their shop online. You won’t get your money back or the item you intended to buy.

Played this past Saturday 12/18 and it was phenomenal. Had a little rain early in the morning and only two holes were CPO. Fairways are still making there way back from the renovation, but would love to see it this coming Spring. Greens are tough!

It is a very challenging course, play the correct tees for your handicap because of the uphill shots there's not a lot of run on the balls on many holes. This course will test all parts of your game, especially on the greens.
