What People Say

In summary

Squirrel Run Golf Club is frequently praised for its well-maintained course conditions, particularly the greens and fairways, as well as its friendly staff and challenging layout. However, some visitors express concerns about the condition of the cart paths, lack of water stations, and occasional slow pace of play. While many appreciate the improvements under new management, others feel that maintenance issues and service inconsistencies detract from the overall experience.

Always in good shape, fairways were nice, greens in good shape as well.

Drove from the Lake Charles area to play an event here and will gladly drive back anytime to play again! The course is in great shape, greens are a little slow but in excellent condition.

The course is in great shape. They are having trouble with the fringes of the greens, however, they are working dilligently in my opinion, to keep the greens in great shape. I play other courses, including Casino courses, most if not all are having similar green issues. Overall, definitely a great course to play!!!

Light years from what it was under new owner. Cart paths still need work, though no one follows the paths anyway.

The good: The staff. The fairways and greens. Course layout. The bad: Unlevel/rough tee boxes, cart paths destroyed, no water jugs on course in this insane heat. It seems like the price was recently raised which was not shown on their website. Overall it is one of the nicer public courses that don’t require a membership in the immediate area.

Played here for the first time in 5 years a week ago. Things have definitely changed for the better! I was very impressed with the condition of the course, especially the fairways and rough around the greens. Great value for the price. You can tell the new management is making an effort to improve the course conditions.

First time playing $65 for 18 not a bad deal. The greens were nice the course was very well maintained there’s a lot of bunkers though they should change the name to Cane Bunker; each green had like three bunkers around them. It’s a very difficult course but I enjoyed it. The only problem I had is there was no water on the entire course and we only saw the cart girl twice. There’s usually a couple of holes where there’s water at other courses but not here. I would suggest making sure you prepare yourself cause they have a nice little make you own water setup inside before you hit the greens or…

The course is very nice and challenging! The staff is super friendly as well. My only complaint is I wish they would manage playtime and flow better. We were not able to finish 18 and had to jump holes. There was a group of 8 guys playing then a group of 6. At one point waiting on the tee 2 other separate groups came up behind us. maybe trying to manage when the players go out so were not all on top of each other can make it more enjoyable rather than having a ball whizz by your head due to impatient players behind you and not being able to let them play through. We couldn't play through becau…

First off, the best greens in the Lafayette area. Second, the course layout is a little on the shorter side but still a tough course to play and it’s in super great shape right now. Also, just had a big high school tournament and it got dumped on for a solid 3 hours but afterwards, around two hours later, the course had almost no puddles and all of the bunkers were almost dry, I was very impressed

Course below average. Staff friendly, very overpriced for condition of course. Cart paths horrible!! Greens below average. This course needs lots of maintenance. All restrooms are closed and broken down. You can smell sewage on course. Lay out of course design confusing. I gave 2 stars only because of staff

Very disappointed in what the course has become. I've been coming here about once a month for the last year and a half and the quality of the course and staff has slowly been deteriorating. The course is flooded, understandable that you can't cut but there's no distance markers unless you actively search for them. It's 95 degrees outside and there's not a water dispenser to be seen. Someone is going to get heat stroke out there. We addressed these issues with the office and he seemed to brush them off with a "whatever" attitude. I will not be going back and won't recommend this course.

the course layout is really fun and has so much potential but it's just in complete disarray. doesn't look like anyone has taken care of the course for months. I played it a handful of times during the summer of 2013 and it was pretty well kept, but I've played it twice this yr (march & may) and I wouldn't play it again if it was free. it's just a mess. I uploaded some pics of the greens.. or lack thereof. don't waste your time or money here.
