In summary

Sunday River Resort Golf Club is widely praised for its stunning mountain views, well-maintained course, and challenging layout with significant elevation changes. Many visitors commend the friendly and helpful staff, as well as the quality of the rental clubs and amenities. However, some guests have experienced issues with pace of play and occasional course maintenance challenges, such as ice damage on greens.

Everyone was very nice, helpful, and friendly. We used their rental clubs, all brand new clubs. They had plenty of sets. Jerry and Tom were top notch! The course was in pristine condition! The views around the golf course are unbelievably beautiful!! This is a must do if you are near it! I will be making a trip back to Maine just to play this course again!!!

Just another day in paradise. There isn’t anything not to like about this course from tee to green. Friendly staff, Luxurious rolling fairways, and well maintained bunkers (although I only found 1 on hole 1). The greens were rolling slow which doesn’t bother me any. I shot incredibly well for my first time playing this course, but I couldn’t have asked for better playing conditions. Top 4 course in Maine! My other 3 are Belgrade, Sugarloaf and Samoset (in no particular order).

Truly an amazing experience. The course (august) was in tip top shape. The greens make awesome “thud” sounds when you land them. They have a great setup here. It felt pricey / splurge for me but once I got on the course, it was the best $$$ spent on my trip. Decent pro shop - everyone is friendly.

The course is beautiful and can play very tough especially from the blues so tee it forward if you want an easier time. Fantastic layout with major elevation changes add to challenge. Great mountain views in the shadows of Sunday River ski area.

I wouldn’t say anybody was overly friendly, but it was a beautiful course and I would definitely play again. Rental clubs were brand new beautiful - excellent food and drinks. The starter Claire was very friendly.

June visit: Course was in good condition, club staff was very nice, course staff was lackluster. The ranger had no control of the groups or play time, and so for the amount of money paid to play at a beautiful setting was turned from a casual play of ready golf to "the black flies are killing me and this foursome is chatting about the bluegrass, where is the ranger? Why is the App for food at the turn not working today? Why does the kid taking my cart want a tip-he didn't do anything..." I had high expectations for Sunday River and they were not met.

The course has absolutely stunning views of the mountains on each hole and the staff is incredibly friendly. I’ll definitely be back.

Lots of positives, all well documented by others (views etc). 3 stars because the course itself is circus golf and not to be taken seriously. Huge elevation changes make it nearly impossible to determine the club on approach, and being off by even one club often kills the hole.

Don’t waste your time or money. Course has nice views, that’s about it. Staff is incredibly disrespectful, and it nearly ruined a fun day golfing. The ranger Jeff wasn’t even at the first tee when we were heading there then he rolls over and yells at us we’re supposed to be teeing off. Maybe you should be at your post on time bud. Then he comes at us on 17 telling us we’re too slow and need to hurry up and that we’re on pace for 5 hour round. Claims the group in from is already on 18. No duh, there was 3 of them and 4 of us of course they were ahead. Finished the round in 4:38, I timed it on m…

The course had stunning views of the mountains and was maintained gorgeously. Challenging but fun course design with the elevation changes and protected greens. Tom at the pro shop was incredibly helpful and got our group from out of town set up and ready for a great round of golf. Would recommend this course to anyone, worth going out of your way to play here.

My review in 2020: Course conditioning has gone downhill significantly since my original review when Harris Golf was running the course. Now the tees are terrible, greens have lots of patches without grass and the practice tee that was like a carpet now looks like a nuclear bomb went off with very little grass left. They've let poa anna grass invade the practice putting green. Definitely not worth the high rack rate given the current conditioning. Too bad - it used to be so nice. My original review 4 years ago: Fantastic golf course! Probably the best I've played and I've played a LOT of them.…

A few of the greens are still recovering from past frost damage, but this is a 5 star course anyway - would be 5 stars even with only temporary greens. Not a narrow course, but the fairways undulate tee to green, and the greens undulate even more. The rough is thick enough to be penalizing, and shots further wayward tend to disappear down or up the side of the mountain. No water hazards on the course that I recall, but a great variety of sand bunkers with good sand. Amazing views on every single hole.
