What People Say

In summary

The Greens at Tanyard is appreciated for its relaxed atmosphere, friendly ownership, and improved greens, offering a low-pressure golfing experience. However, visitors frequently mention issues such as inconsistent course conditions, high prices compared to value, and lack of amenities like food services and updated operational hours. While some find the course layout enjoyable, others are disappointed by maintenance concerns and organizational challenges.

Photos from May 2026 Easy no-pressure play. Be sure to call ahead because hours sometime change (just like every other small business in Louisa).

Solid 3 star course. Greens are nicer than some other local courses as of September 2025. If you're willing to spend extra (18: $60/weekday or $70/weekend // 9: $45/weekday or $50/weekend (as of 10/22/25)) to have a quieter golf experience with less golfers around, then that's a solid choice. Other courses in better shape with amenities are approximately $40 during the week for 18. There are no food services at the course. I would play here more often if the prices were more economical but instead play about once a month here and play one to two times every week at other nearby courses. Bu…

Played 9 holes on 4/3/26 and came away pleasantly surprised. The course is in better shape than expected, with the front nine greens in particularly good condition—smooth and well-maintained. The price with a cart feels reasonable overall, though some may find it slightly on the higher side ($55–$75). It would be great to see a walking rate offered, especially since there were at least two groups of five on the course. Walking likely would have helped the pace of play feel more natural. That said, the atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable. The larger group was courteous and offered multiple o…

Just played there today. Photos in the review were from today (Mid-November 2024) The club is a mom and pop shop so it's very low key. The greens were in amazing shape especially in November. The front desk owner, Lisa, was very nice and personable. Allowed us to play 9 and let us decide if we wanted to play the back 9 if time allowed. Green fee was a bargain at $65 for 18 holes and a cart. ($45 for 9). I found this super reasonable considering other courses in the area are $169. Cart path is rough at places. So? You're in a cart. The gravel isn't going to hurt you and we're able to get to…

I had the great pleasure of meeting the husband/wife owners, Tim & Lisa, of this course. I met Tim for the first time, and it was like I've known him for decades. Super personable and sharing. The greens were in GREAT condition, I put them up against the best courses. Good pace of play. The $70 fee is very fair for a Sunday round. The cart paths are gravel; so what! Nice mix of straight, tight, dogleg, and placement holes. Only thing it's missing is food/concessions. Highly recommended for no frills golf. I'll be back. Thanks Tim! God bless you and the family.

It’s 2:45 on a beautiful, sunny 47° Sunday, so I make the 20 minute drive to hit a few balls on the range, and am greeted with this gate. Seriously? If you’re going to close, it’s very easy to update the hours of operation on Google. I’ve not heard good things about this course, but decided to check it out. Well, I checked it out…

Very disorganized and not accommodating. I was coming down to Lake Anna for the weekend with some friends for my bachelor party. I called about a month in advance to book tee times for the group and was told that wasn’t a problem and we were good to go. Long story short they canceled on me the day before and didn’t provide any other tee times options. Would not recommend booking a tee time here

Do not go this course and expect a regular $60 course. There are no trash cans, the bathrooms were locked and we couldn’t use them, the greens are terrible and not kept up well, and our cart died on the second hole. Looks like it really used to be a nice course a long time ago but it really fell off and it’s not worth $60 to play at all. Fun round but not going back.

The greens look the best they have ever looked in the 5 years I have been playing there. The older gentleman that runs the club is great. Always welcoming and ready to help specially with cart turn in.

Played here in 2022 and 2023, a year after new ownership. Nice improvements on maintenance, greens and fairways. A nice local course. Range balls gets you a full bucket and a majority are real ball vs RANGE balls, $10 large. 5 stars for improvements and location in Louisa.

Great layout but greens are not great fairways are not watered Better than last year when we played there. Not worth 70 dollars. Quick round only 3 hours and 6 minutes was a plus.

I’ll start with the positive…the layout of the holes is very nice. Unfortunately, the condition of the course was a bit rough. Greens were not good and tee boxes were equally rough. For $60, I’d expect better conditions. Also, while the woman running the place was very pleasant, she’s the only one working. Bathrooms are locked and drinks are not accessible when she’s out on the course (which is often).
