Lake Monticello Golf Course

Course was great. Beautiful even. But the experience with the staff may have been the worst ever, mostly just Mason. Mason would not let the family continue after locking our carts at the 5th hole(can’t play with a family of 5…. We will leave the third kid at home?). After we had called and had no explanation, no warnings, and when he arrived all he could say was that it’s a semi-professional golf course and threatened cops. So professional of him. Would never come back.

I liked this course for the layout and the challenge of having to course manage around some tight landing areas. I’d give it a 4 or 5 stars if it was in better shape. Most of the greens were patchy and look like they had seen better days (the putting green should’ve been a big indicator). Some tee boxes were also patchy/bare, #13 especially. I know climate has been rough to the grass in the central VA region, I’ll be back and can hopefully update the review.

The course itself was nice, but the overall experience was extremely disappointing due to the staff. We were nothing but respectful, yet several staff members had noticeable attitudes. Our waitress at the bistro never smiled, seemed miserable the entire time, and even blamed us for a mistake that she made. For people who have never been there and rarely golf, the staff was completely unhelpful and unprofessional. No one mentioned when clubs had to be returned, and then we were suddenly forced to bring them back earlier than the time they gave us 15 minutes prior. Mason in particular should not…

Greens were terrible. No liquor license = no cart girl = waiting on the restaurant to open to purchase any adult beverage. If the greens were in better shape this course would have received 4 stars. (-1 for making hunt down swing juice)

Great course, the golfing was great…. That’s it. Staff was unhelpful, rude, and very unprofessional. You would think after paying for 18 holes you’d get to play all 18, not get harassed and kicked out by Mason well before closing. Looking forward to golfing somewhere that’s not a rip off and full of condescending jokers.

I understand things like this can happen but still charging full price ($80) is ridiculous. It’s a challenging layout but with almost all of the greens in this condition, $80 was egregious. Tee boxes weren’t much better.

Love this place. 30-40 minute drive from Charlottesville but worth it every time! Course is in great shape. Restaurant is so tasty. Always can find a good rate online.

Great course very beautiful!! I just started golf and have been playing with friends to learn the game and get better. Sadly I had a very disappointing in-counter with Tommy Deal, he was very disrespectful and one of the most stuck up people I’ve talked to. I bought range balls not knowing you couldn’t use them on the course. He rudely took the balls from me acting as if I knew I couldn’t use them after telling him I was new to golf. Without a doubt the worst customer service experience I’ve ever had In my life. The whole staff for the most part was rude . As a group where for most of us it was our first time playing golf they didn’t really give us a breakdown of any sort on how it works. They never told us when the clubs had to be returned until near the very end when they locked the golf carts on us. We paid for a whole 18 holes but the golf carts were locked on hole 10. Great course with challenging layout. Decent value. Was not crowded at all. Awesome practice facility with plenty of putting green area and separate chipping/short game area. Challenging to walk, especially the back 9 because of elevation changes but layout flowed easily from hole to hole. Would definitely come back

Super fun and challenging track. Tough to beat for the price especially on a weekend. Conditions are almost perfect from tee to green. Clearly a lot of pride regarding maintenance staff. Would be nice to see them speed up the greens by a foot or two but other than that, 5/5.
