In summary

The Homestead is highly praised for its beautiful and challenging course, with well-maintained greens and fairways, set against a stunning mountainous backdrop. The staff is frequently noted for their exceptional hospitality, enhancing the overall experience. However, some visitors express concerns about the high cost and limited accessibility for spectators during events, particularly regarding golf cart rentals.

Amazing course and worth the greens fees. The views were amazing the lies not so much hahaha. This course was very challenging. I played 27 holes here over our vacation. The staff was awesome. They took care of my clubs from the time I arrived until I checked out. You need to give this course a play!

Pleasure teeing off at Americas oldest tee in continous use. Amazing views from every hole, with the mountains in the backdrop and view of the Old Himstead. The 6 par 3s, par 4s and par 5s are a nice touch. Stop by the pro shop and say hello to the GM Mark, and the rest of the team.

One of the most peaceful places 🥰. It has alot of fun and energetic activities, we tried the zip line, shooting and kayaking and all of them were good. The pool is clean and they have kids area. I am giving 4 stars though, Because some of the furniture was not very clean and because it became more expensive.

Worst place I’ve visited very rude. Hold golf districts for the children and parents/grandparents can’t rent carts when asked golf house was very rude and unprofessional save your money this place is a joke! 10/10 would rather go to cascades down the road where they are welcoming and will accommodate the elderly instead of making them walk 10 miles+

Beautiful course but very challenging greens. Do not leave your ball above the pin.

Exactly what you'd expect at a resort mountain course. Small greens, thick rough and everything in near manicured condition. Excellent staff. Great golf carts. I'm not a morning person but came on a 25th anniversary trip with the wife so I teed off first player so I could be back by the time she decided to get out of bed. I dont know how to and dont like playing in morning dew and the constant swarm of knots but for other golfers I'm sure they love it. A couple great views of the resort. The ups and downs weren't extremely challenging but just enough to make your club choice important. Gree…

The course was in good shape with the greens being challenging. My only suggestion would be to add on a set of executive tees for women especially. We had 2 groups in front of us that contained women that struggled with the yardage from the womens tees.

The Old Course at the Homestead is one of the finest mountain courses in Virginia and one of the best public courses as well. The staff show the finest hospitality that I’ve ever encountered and make you feel welcome during the round. The course itself is a shorter and older layout but is no pushover by any means. The course has small and severely undulating greens that are lightning fast and fairways that are severely sloping resulting in very few even lies. The conditions of the course are immaculate and make for an enjoyable day of golf for all skill levels.

If you are coming to watch your son or daughter play high school golf, don't. You cannot rent a golf cart like you can at the other high school golf meets. You are given the opportunity to "maybe" view them from the crater-style side of the road which has been washed away. (As a heads-up, you may lose your vehicle doing so). Such a disappointment for us when we discovered how beautiful the property is only to be told "you can watch in a couple spots from the road whenever they get there". Needless to say, it has been a waste driving to a picturesque location and not even being allowed to walk…
