In summary

The Lakes Country Club receives praise for its friendly staff, affordable pricing, and ongoing improvements, including new facilities and well-maintained carts. Many appreciate the challenging layout and the efforts being made to enhance the course conditions. However, some visitors express concerns about inconsistent course maintenance, slow pace of play, and occasional issues with customer service.

For the most part, this has been a decent golf course until today (Sunday Nov 16). My husband plays here occasionally for the last few years and I have ridden along with him on some of his visits. Until today, he has never been charged a $10 fee for me to ride along. I do not play golf and have no interest in playing, I just ride along to keep him company. I have never been charged to ride along at any of the coastal golf courses of which there are many until today. He played here just 3 days ago and I was with him (see my precious video of the deer frolicking on hole 8 on Thursday November 13…

Friendly staff and nice carts; however, the while acknowledging it is winter, the course needs some serious love. The tee box placements for the white tees thru like the first 12 holes was very poor - all very uneven. For the price expected better course maintenance.

The people working there were VERY friendly and helpful. Course was in very good condition. GPS in the carts was really cool.and helpful. The cart would not allow you to drive where you weren't supposed to go. Priced right too.

Paid for 18 holes with a t time at 2:30. Called and complained about the pace of play with the group in front of us. It took us 3 hours to complete 9 holes. The woman at the front was rude, unprofessional and kept me on hold for 5 minutes while simply taking to someone on the club house instead of addressing the issue and did not send a marshal out to handle the pace of play issue. Will not return to this establishment it is a waste of money. Absolutely no reason at all that a “USGA” golf “club” should take 3 hours to play 9 holes of mediocre golf.

First time playing this course on 9/16/25. Ladies in the pro shop were very kind and welcoming! The course itself provided a challenging layout that made for an enjoyable round. The first tee “marshal” was less than ideal. I told him it was our first time playing here and asked what line off the tee we should take (hard dog leg right with trouble) to which he responded, “ fairway.” Very helpful. Then, as we were getting out of our carts (4 in our group) up by the first green he drove up and told us we needed “to pick up our pace of play.” Two things - first time playing the course (We had take…

Been playing this course fairly regularly since January. It doesn't cost a ton like some clubs do and it has some fairly challenging holes, which in my opinion makes it better. Since January I've seen this place turn a corner that makes it much better. They added new signs, ball cleaners at each hole, they've put a lot into the grounds work to where the grounds are very green and weed free (see photo of hole 2). Lastly, they are building a new main building. The owners have put a lot of time, money, and efforts into this course and it shows. The best part is how nice the employees are, I pref…

Played 18 here on a Monday morning as a 2some. All in all, a decent course for the price. Unpretentious staff and a quiet vibe good for beginners. Greens were slow after being aerated 2.5 weeks ago, but that is completely understandable. They are coming in nicely and will be good to putt on in a week or two after a couple of shorter cuts. Layout is relatively wide open off the tee even with most of the holes being a dogleg. You just have to take the right club off the tee depending on how much dogleg you are cutting off. Despite the initial confusion with a large group ahead playing off #10…

Great course to come and okay a round of golf for cheap with no added pressure. Course conditions are what you would expect for a cheap round of golf. The pro shop is very nice and always have been greeted with very friendly and welcoming staff. Golf carts are new and clean.

Played out here yesterday afternoon around 2:30. Only played here once last year in October. Had to come back for the consistent greens. Read a lot of bad comments on how terrible the conditions are on this course. I disagree, for the price point and the work they are doing currently (which I saw) is definitely worth it. 5 holes right now are cart path only, which are on some of the rough fairways. But if you're like me, I rarely hit the fairway. Also got to play with the owner Roger. Very down to earth guy even gave me a few pointers since I can hit the ball straight. Probably will make this…

Worst golf course I’ve ever played on. Weeds on greens, fairways had no grass. The sand traps were the only bright spot with soft sand and raked perfectly. Worth the $38 dollars to lose a bunch of golf balls. Time to invest some money and clean things up. It’s been 5 years since Hurricane Florence.

Decent golf course that is not as expensive as other courses in the area but overall still needs some TLC. Layout is good and somewhat challenging, the greens and tee boxes are in average/good shape but the fairways are garbage with weeds overtaking most of them. You can see the owners are putting an effort into the course and it could be really good if the fairways were dealt with. The clubhouse, though small, is brand new and offers enough for any golfers needs (drinks, hot dogs, munchies, etc.). Midday (11:00am to 2:00pm) seems to be busiest from what I can tell. Booking a tee time is easy…

Between the gentleman mowing in the middle of my drive, refusing to stop and the construction on the front nine. I was only able to golf 15 of my 18 holes. My cart malfunctioned in the middle of my game, and then magically started working again and yes, I was on the Car path at the entire time. Staff does not care one way or another, as long as they are getting their money.
