Weather was nice this Monday. 70s. Had fun playing at Mattawang with friends. Overall, a solid course with well-maintained greens and fairways. The conditions were impressive for the most part, and the course was clean throughout. However, some area had water drainage issues, leaving some muddy spots that affected play. The layout was a bit on the bland side—nothing too exciting or memorable. Also, there were no rangers on the course, which might be an issue for pace-of-play monitoring. Despite these minor drawbacks, it’s still a good course and worth a visit.

Friendly clubhouse. Well maintained course. Lush fairways and decent greens. Recommend carts as it's a bit of a long to walk (at least I felt so). Has a small driving range. Would definitely like to play here again.

Nothing like having to leave the course and come back at the start of the 10th. Turns out they close the club house right after the last scheduled round goes out, so no snack, no drinks, no bathrooms. Pretty cool, but at least McDonalds was close so I could have my McDonalds while sitting on my cigarette burnt/melted seat! This place is a joke, figure give it a shot while passing through NJ and recommend to try another one if you are in the area. Nothing like some employees that just don’t care and management that really couldn’t care less on presentation.

Usually disappointed in courses halfway between North Jersey friends and I - pleasantly surprised with the course value. Greens were on par with top notch courses - cool little range over water. No alcohol or glizzies, maybe the reason pace of play was so quick. Friendly ranger as well - would definitely play again, hopefully on less windy day

Beautiful public course, first time I played it - WOW, plays long from the white at 6,556 yards. Even with the heavy rain last night the course is in phenomenal shape, nice clean fairway, nice greens, couldnt believe this is a public course. Definitely check it out. Another hidden gem in Jersey. Downside - no cart person, no beer or food at the clubhouse or on the course, make sure you bring something to snack on or it will be along day, hopefully you enjoy this place like I did*****

Upon arrival, the starter was a buzzkill. Saying you can’t take carts onto the parking lot while he was on it was a double standard. So carrying your bag a fair distance to the first tee box wasn’t ideal. The course was in 3/5 shape. Although some fairways looked reminiscent of Neil Armstrong’s first steps on the moon. The real kicker was the clubhouse closing at 3:30 on a weekend. No bathrooms or food at the turn. Looking at past negative reviews, I hope the owner can put more energy into fixing up the course than gaslighting customers.

Not Worth the Price — Look Elsewhere The course itself is relatively flat and playable, but that's where the compliments end. Greens are mediocre at best, and many of the tee boxes are in rough shape. What really pushes this into “avoid” territory is the overall management experience. The prepaid policy is rigid and unfriendly — I once booked a tee time for four players with carts, only to be told on arrival it was walking-only, with no refund or credit for the carts. When we raised concerns, the staff showed little interest in making things right. With other options nearby offering better c…

Nice and affordable golf course. Well maintained greens, good pace of play. Unfortunately no beverage options outside of the clubhouse, so bring some hydration options. Been here 3 times and will continue to reserve a tee time.

Course is maintained all right. Tee times usually available because they still have a covid pre pay rule in effect. Would be a higher rating but the range isn't available for use unless you have a tee time. Update: course was in great shape when I played recently

Unfortunate experience. Is it normal courtesy to not allow observers? The golf industry should be encouraging everyone to love the game. The management today was confrontational about having a 5th person with the intent of just enjoying the day. After paying the $20 extra cart fee my group was told they had to split up even though only 4 were playing. They were concerned about the "optics" of having 3 carts at a hole. I ended up leaving because the four golfers wanted to play together. The tense confrontation made the day uncomfortable and unpleasant. For future significant others that want to…

If you have to use the rest room after 3:30, good luck. They close the clubhouse right after the last tee time tees off (3:24). No restroom available and no food available between the 9th and 10th hole. It’s late August so the fairway not being in great condition is understandable but the unavailability of basic service made this experience less than enjoyable.

They don't allow you to reserve a golf cart in advance. I was told if grounds are too wet, they don't allow cart usage...not even cart path only. My 80 year father-in-law can't walk it, so I had to cancel my T-time. Then they told me I had to call Golf Now for my refund (even though I booked on their web site). So after a 10 minute call that required being placed on hold twice, I got my refund. They don't make it easy for their clients. Unless you are OK walking, pick another course.
