In summary

The River Golf & Country Club is frequently praised for its challenging and intriguing layout, friendly staff, and overall value, especially given its picturesque setting. Many golfers appreciate the well-maintained fairways and greens, although some note that certain areas, such as tee boxes and bunkers, require improvement. While the course offers a rewarding experience for those seeking a challenge, there are occasional concerns about the condition of the greens and the availability of amenities.

What a great experience! Gal in the pro shop super friendly! With Bermuda just about to green up the fairways were in awesome shape, greens were a little long but it’s that time of year so be it. Intriguing layout! Great vibe very laid back and a quiet environment. Will definitely play here over Zebulon CC no doubt about it.

Another day, another course review. Shot 91 on a not terrible day, just some big numbers on particular holes. It's rare I give out 5s only because the criteria I set is particular. Usually it's value vs conditions. This course is one of my favorites despite being an hour drive. At $55, this is one of the best courses around, just a step down in condition vs private clubs. Tee boxes 4/5 - There are a couple tee boxes that have issues that brings this score down. A couple holes have shaded tee boxes that grass fails to grow good on. Fairways 4.5/5 - They're not perfect, but there aren't patches…

Walked 4 holes in Feb'26. Layout looks pretty bad. Sharp doglegs with water and OB all over. Little ponds that just shouldn't have been put where they are. Wanted to love it if that matters.

This was my first visit to River Golf & Country Club. It's a beautiful golf course. My son and I played 18 holes and drove a cart. The course itself is challenging. There are some long par 5's. Several holes have water hazards. Bunkers are spread nicely around the greens. We used a Groupon deal to play and it cost approximately $30 for two people and a cart. Overall I was pleased with the experience. There were a few greens that were not in good condition but it appeared that work was being done to improve them. It definitely recommend playing this course. The golf is fun and the natural beaut…

Good challenge, tough golf course. The layout has a number of blind shore that punish good shots. Play the course a couple times and these blind shots will not punish you. Greens need to be cut a little closer they are terribly slow. Pins need to be moved edges of cups are grown over. Most greens have only one or 2 visible cup marks on them. 4 or 5 holes you tee off from the fairway because the tee boxes are under repair. Those boxes appear to have been under repair for an extended period. Overall it is a great layout. I would play this course again.

First time back in about 1.5 yrs. I had heard the course was in great shape which after playing I did not see that great shape. The front nine was still pretty bad. I will say the back nine was in better shape. The greens were very nice I guess that’s where they concentrate mostly. The tee boxes were terrible need a lot of work. The fairways were just ok. The front nine could be better if it was more open, it is closed in by trees to let course get what it needs to be a great course. The course has a nice lay out and some challenging holes. I would say it is not worth the drive to play but if…

Nice course but prices keep going up. When there is a big rain, expect course to be closed or many holes cart path even with just a little water. Started back to Zebulon, better rate, less woods and water. Much nicer playing experience. I will say Randy and some others are good to have there but the price increase, deterred me to not renew my membership or play as a Lake Resident.

This course is not for the amateur, "weekend warrior" golfer. And I am one! Extremely precise shots needed for at least half of the course. Very beautiful landscaping and water features (that will also sneak up on you). Would advise any golfer that wants a challenge to play honest card here and see where you stack up. Will definitely play again and looking forward to breaking 100 next time 😆

First time playing this course. Greens were in terrific condition. Fairways and bunkers were good too. Really enjoyed the layout. Great to see management putting money back into the course! Areas of improvement are blue tee boxes and cart paths. When this gets addressed, this could be a very special place to play. Overall a good experience.

Let me say that I love this golf course and layout, having played it since it was only a 9 hole track. Back then it was beautifully maintained and immaculate with white sand bunkers. The staff is great, Randy goes out of his way to make you feel at home. They welcomed us last summer while our course's greens were being overhauled. I'm sad to see the condition of these greens and what appears to be a lack of upkeep. There smaller and smaller, many were drowning with water to the point on hole 3 the ball plugged in the middle of the green and many bare or becoming bare spots on them. Hopefully t…
