What People Say

In summary

Cahoon Plantation is frequently praised for its well-maintained course, challenging layout, and friendly staff, making it a popular choice among golfers in the area. The bent grass fairways and greens are often highlighted for their excellent condition, and the course offers a good balance of challenge and playability. However, some visitors have expressed concerns about the pace of play and management's handling of slow groups, which can impact the overall experience.

Great course. Hilly fescue green year round. Challenging greens. Keep in the fairway easy to loose your ball out side of fairway.

I played this course in the middle of the week in late May. It was in great shape in spite of the recent heavy rain. Greens were faster than Hell's Point, and I love how they rolled on the bent grass. The course has lots of undulations, hazards, tight fairways, and long holes on the back 9. Whatever you do, stay out of the rough! Tough course, but lots of fun.

The golf course was nice. My husband wanted to bring me because he remembered it being super plush and gorgeous. It isn't and he was disappointed. However, it was very nice. The forward tees were not an after thought. They were well thought out and cared for.

I was in Norfolk for the day on Wednesday August 1, 2018 and I decided to play golf while I was there. Cahoon Plantation had some good reviews and good rates, so I decided to give it a shot. I was very pleased with this place! The Gentleman that was working the pro shop that day was very friendly and gave me a brief overview of the course. I really thought this course was in awesome shape overall, and wasn't too challenging to where it would frustrate someone. I really felt welcomed at this course and will definitely be coming back when i'm in Chesapeake!

Facilities are great: grass tee driving range, clubhouse is nice and the course is in great condition. Overall great course, my only qualm is a few holes weave through a housing development. This doesn't take away from the quality of the course, I just personally dont care for course layouts in housing developments. I would recommend this course to anyone looking for a quality course in great condition with a decent layout.

Played Friday 7/20/2018. Hands down the best course I've played in the VB area. Smart/interesting layout. Soft, level tees. Beautiful fairways. Soft, fast, true greens. Smooth cart paths. Nice gas carts with ball and club washer attached. Played 18 holes in exactly 4 hours. Scott in the pro shop was super friendly and helpful. Only reason I don't give 5 stars is because the afternoon ranger gave me an attitude for parking the cart 10 feet off the cart path into the rough when we went to tee off on #11 even though there was a clearly beaten path of carts going off there heading toward the forwa…

Course is a must play. Always in great condition. It will challenge all parts of your game. Some narrow fairways with forced carries. Undulating greens that roll true and can be setup to be very fast. Great staff and practice facilities.

Cahoon is by far the best course I've played on before! I started playing golf a few months ago so I'm no course expert but the quality of this course is absolutely amazing compared to most other courses in Hampton roads. I really liked the lack of trees and the clear view of the holes, you just cant beat it for $35!

I do not know what course these other reviewers played but this course is in rough shape from tee to green to practice facility. You can definitely tell that it has gone down hill. The course itself has good bones but the conditions are very poor for a course that commands $50+ for a round. The front 9 is a good layout but nothing spectacular or memorable. Tee boxes have 2-3 different types of grass growing with a few dirt spots, fairways were in decent shape and the greens were definitely beat up, looked like the cups haven't been moved in weeks. The back 9 has a very lackluster layout, that…

I'd like to start by saying the course is not the reason I gave it two stars, it's the management of play. I have played here 5 times and every time I play no matter the day or time I have been stuck behind slow players. This would be fine but the slow players have never let my group through and the ranger doesn't do anything about it even when asked. In all five times I have been here I have not completed the entire 18 holes since it takes me 6 plus hours and I skip by people. As an example my father in law and I can play 18 uninterrupted in about 2.5 to 3 hours. I have spent 4 hours on 9 hol…
