In summary

Ellinwood Country Club is appreciated for its challenging and historic Donald Ross layout, featuring narrow fairways and tricky greens that offer a unique golfing experience. The staff is frequently praised for their friendliness and the course is noted for its affordability, especially considering the quality of play. However, some visitors mention issues with cart paths and patchy fairways, as well as the challenging nature of the greens, which can be difficult for some players. Overall, it is considered a worthwhile destination for those in the area.

This place is basically a muni. The fairways are brown in spots, probably because there hasn't been much rain. The greens were in pretty good shape though, more on them later. It's kind of a quirky layout and you'll want an app or a yardage book. Hit driver well on 3 (I think) and you're in the marsh you can't see from the tee. If you drive it past the crest it rolls. This is the case on a couple holes. On 9 there's a big 'ol pond on the left you can't see. So be wary, there are dogs about. The greens were in good shape. Folks could fix their ball marks though. I get sick of typing that. Fix…

Challenging track. I really love the layout! All of the people working there seem pleasant and friendly. I recommend it as a course to check out. My girlfriend and I have really been enjoying our rounds there lately!

Beautiful course which earns a 5 star. Some of the players get a one star though. A while back I was going to chip the ball over some buckwheat grass that was about eh, 5’6” or so and almost hit one of the other players. I think his name is Davis King, principal of the high school. Thankfully, the chipped ball was able to sustain an altitude of 5’7”. He needs to wear some wedges or make himself visible while out on the green. My slice is terrible. Pay attention

Interesting Donald Ross layout. True good condition greens. Aprons and fringes nice. BUT: 1. Cart paths in awful and IMHO dangerous condition. Loose steering and slippery brakes added to issue. 2. Recent rains showcased poor drainage in fairways.

Nice course, fun to play. Excellent daytime greens fee too. Tee's and greens are in very good shape while the fairways are good but have several burned out areas. The course has a good mixture of open and tight holes and many elevation changes. Several blind shots. Lots of high character holes with the 11th being my favorite. An elevated tee to a narrow fairway with a stream running the length down the right side. The green is placed on the other side of the stream. A must play Donald Ross design.

I'd love to give a better rating for a local course. Unfortunately the greens make that impossible. Tough greens are one thing. Greens that are more like mini golf greens are another. If you leave a putt an inch short it really shouldn't roll BACK 30 feet.
