In summary

Ford's Colony Country Club is highly praised for its well-maintained courses, particularly the Blue Heron, and its welcoming and professional staff. The club offers excellent amenities, including a clubhouse, restaurants, and event facilities, making it a popular choice for both golf and special events. However, some visitors have noted issues with course conditions on the Blackheath course, particularly with waterlogged bunkers and patchy fairways, as well as mixed experiences with the pro shop staff and bar service.

Played the Blackheath course on 5/28/26. The course is in horrible shape, lots of large dead patches on the tees, fairways, in the rough, approach areas, and fringe areas. Bunkers were either full of standing water or completely compacted and impossible to rake. There were a numbers of areas on the bunkers where the edges have collapsed and need to be rebuilt. Picture shown is the average condition near all of the greens.

Excellent staff and very professional! Course is immaculate! Greens started quick and for quicker during the morning. It's just too hot in Williamsburg today...

Golf courses are fantastic. Both restaurants are nice. The starters, bag drop workers, and marshals are wonderful. However, the young guys working in the pro shop are cold and apathetic. They regularly lie about tee times being unavailable, both on the phone and in person. A small damper on an otherwise amazing facility

We spent this week in Williamsburg golfing. The time I spent with my buddies on 2 of their courses was well enjoyed. The club house restaurant had delicious options and the staff was very attentive. Blue Heron was in crazy good condition. Black Heath could use some water from the sprinkler because the ground was hard as heck. Otherwise the greens were super smooth and I give a total hats off to the staff and club.

We played on 5/26/26. Group of 14 players. The people working there were terrific. However, every single bunker was filled with 6-12 inches of standing, murky water. Never seen anything like it. It had rained a lot this week. I lost 4 balls in that bunker water. They probably should have not allowed us to play. It was a sub-par experience. There was standing water on the course every where. Need to install some sort of drain in those bunkers or insist on giving us a rain check. In addition, several (more than 9) tee boxes had no (underlying mud/dirt) or completely dead grass, as did the fairwa…

We loved working with Ford Colony Country Club's Director of Private Events Kristin Collins through the wedding day planning process. She was very responsive, flexible and helped us navigate through any issue that stymied our planning. We are extremely grateful and thankful to her and her team to make our wedding venue and wedding forever memorable for us and our guests. Our wedding was a huge success in part due to Ford's execellent team and we are so elated that we chose Ford's Colony Country Club as our wedding venue. The Garden Pavillion is absolutely breathtaking during evening and is a p…

Manicured course with various terrains throughout. Friendly folks are plentiful and there to help. Great value, especially with a VSGA membership.

We played 18 holes yesterday on the Blue Heron course and had a fantastic time. The course was in great shape, and the staff both in the pro shop and out on the course were absolutely phenomenal—friendly, professional, and welcoming. Everything about the golf experience itself was top-notch. The only downside came when we stopped at the bar for a drink before heading out. Unfortunately, the Old Fashioned was one of the worst we’ve had, and at $39.99 with tax for two drinks (before tip), we expected much better. It was served in a small rocks glass with standard cubed ice, the cherry and orang…

We had the 2023 Virginia Aviation Hall of Fame induction there Saturday November the 4th. The facility is impressive from the outside with plenty of parking. It is well laid out on the inside to facilitate events like ours which included a gathering and registration location, a reception, dinner, and follow on reception. The staff was well trained and friendly. For our event, the meal was buffet style. The food was good, hot and fresh. Fords Colony Country Club will be at the top of our list for consideration for next year’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

UPDATED after playing the Blackheath course again on September 19th. After playing the course in late March and finding it in excellent condition, I was expecting even better conditions following a Summer of growth of the Bermuda fairways. However, after playing it yesterday, I was a bit disappointed in some of the conditions. In general the tee boxes are excellent, the fairways are tight from all the cart traffic, the bunkers vary greatly from unplayable to soft white sand, and the bent grass greens were very beaten up (tons of ball marks) and holding on. Frankly the greenskeepers have done…
