What People Say

In summary

Gainesville Country Club is appreciated for its scenic layout and friendly staff, with some visitors enjoying the challenging course design and welcoming atmosphere. However, there are consistent concerns about the course's maintenance, including overgrown greens, unkempt bunkers, and inadequate facilities, such as a lack of water stations and restroom upkeep. While some find the course conditions satisfactory, others feel improvements are needed to justify the pricing and enhance the overall golfing experience.

Played on August 15, 2025. The course is very tight for a non-T.V. golfer. The landscape is very pretty to the observing eyes but unfortunately the fairway trees are overgrown and the surrounding rough needs cutting. The sound of maintenance lawnmowers and personnel was unavailable. The temperature was a scorching 100 degrees. To prevent player heat strokes I suggest placing two ice water coolers at 4 hole intrivals. Also suggest hiring course Marshall's to maintain pace of play and course decorum. The greens are slower than a turtle and should be cut short and rolled. Come on Gainesville you…

I agree with Bill and Darren. Worst course I've ever played, and I've played some backwoods, cow pasture courses in my day. It should be illegal to charge green fees to play this course. Adding pictures since the pictures I could find through google are nowhere near representative of the course today. There were so many weeds in the greens that we mostly picked up after the first putt.

Since its opening in 1963, the mission of Gainesville Country Club has always been the same: To offer its members a lifestyle that includes high quality recreational facilities, member services and social opportunities in an open, friendly and family-oriented environment. The golf course is a special part of the equation here at Gainesville Country Club. It was originally designed by architect George Cobb and opened in 1963. In 1992, Mark McCumber and Associates rebuilt the greens and brought them up to USGA standards. Playing anywhere between 5,163 and 6,866 yards, the course is well suited…

Played there yesterday with some friends. I only gave it a two because of the course design. I could picture this place in its Heyday being an awesome challenging Course. Driving range was terrible no grass and dirty golf balls. On the course greens covered with weeds, bunkers filled with grass and hadn't been raked by the grounds crew probably for a month or more and oh by the way there are no rakes in or near the bunkers. Tee boxes were in horrible shape. Fairways looked like they hadn't been watered in a long while it was very dry so really no decent lies anywhere on the whole course no mat…

Really beautiful community, an excellent golf course. I visited this place for an event, the staff were excellent and the venue was an excellent place to host events.

Country Club prices but very well managed! Nice course! It's winter but I bet that it is outstanding during the summer. Fast greens due to it being winter. Very good layout! Challenging course but VERY playable. I will definitely go back and I recommend this course to any avid golfer!!!

A++++ in my books! This course is phenomenal with lovely scenery the whole way through. A very friendly staff who made my first time there a welcomed change! Met the superintendent, who was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the course. Even met the general manager of the course, which whom introduced herself as Betty, extremely professional and super nice as well! All around a very good experience with super fair pricing! Can’t wait to come back!

First time playing here the other day and a great experience overall! Course is not in prime shape, but good enough for a bogey golfers like me. A tad pricey, but I know they are putting that money towards good work on the course. GRASS driving range! Friendly people, even the superintendent, Jessie, stopped my father and I to introduce himself. Very cool! Will be back much more often!

I’m shocked to see anything more than a 1. Should be illegal to post pictures of the course the way it truly looks. This course should close down immediately and spend money to fix. Green, tee boxes, and fairways full of weeds. Can’t find ball in the fairway. To top it off, cart paths only. What a joke. You can’t ruin these fairways any worse than they already are. Terrible. If you are a real golfer, avoid at all cost.

This club is truly a classic old southeir heirloom. It is open to the public and very affordable for the average golfer. The staff went out of their way to make me feel welcome and treated me as a member. The course is in excellent condition and the greens roll true... The only negative comment is on sand traps. Too many rocks. If you are looking for a truely old southern classic club course include this "secret" on your bucket list.

Situated in a good location but the course requires major improvements with overall facilities. Restroom was clearly abandoned and had rarely been maintained, no drinking water on the course, and most importantly their customer service line keeps bringing me back to the main menu and there’s no way I could get through to any staff by phone. Fyi, neither their restaurant nor bar was open on both occasions I was there. Course layout is mediocre with only two or so holes with minor challenges.

It was great, but when we arrived it rained which isn't their fault, I just wanted to put that out there. If you want to swim in that beautiful pool like I did make sure to go on a sunny day, not rainy. I would've loved to swim there!
