In summary

Gateway Hills Golf Course is appreciated for its scenic layout, affordability, and welcoming atmosphere, especially for military personnel and veterans. Many visitors commend the course's challenging hills and well-maintained fairways, along with the friendly staff. However, some reviews highlight issues with inconsistent greens, maintenance concerns, and occasional slow pace of play, which can detract from the overall experience.

Great course overall and you can't beat the price, especially for active duty or veterans! The course is tough with lots of hills but the scenery is beautiful and plenty of wildlife to see as well. Highly recommend!

First time golfing at Lackland Air Force Base, and we were impressed! The course is tough but a lot of fun with plenty of hills that keep each hole interesting. The fairways were in great shape, and it was super easy to get an early morning tee time. We will definitely be back again!

This is my "go-to" course. Great layout and always welcoming staff. As a retired vet, love coming here to play with so many service people and veterans. Yes, it can get busy especially with walkers, however, that's ok and totally understandable. Enjoy the scenery, moment and life is good! Thanks Gateway!!!

Normally have a great time on this course, cheap for service-members, challenging change of elevation, etc. Paid today for 18 and started around 3. The course was exceptionally busy today, lots of fours playing very slow. Slow enough that I started on Hole 10 because Hole 1 had a group that took maybe 20 minutes to play through. That was the story for the whole course, I started on 10, struck and by the time I get to my ball, a group of four skipped in front of me when no one was there previously. It took me almost 2 hours to get through 7 holes when I can normally get through 18 in less time,…

Fairways and greens are in decent shape but if you miss the fairways be prepared to play off some hardpan surfaces. Sand traps also need some work. Other than that, beautiful day to play.

I have never seen the course in such good shape. The greens were exceptional and the tee boxes, for the most part, immaculate. The only disappointment was the work to the cart path on 18. Hopefully that will be addressed and resolved soon.

The course has great grass and the course layout is great. All but 2 members of the staff is super friendly…not gonna throw out names… The biggest complaint is that the overall management of the course seems to be lacking. The greens are super inconsistent (roll them daily) and it will help how spongy they are. Half the sprinklers are leaking and half don’t work, hence all the dry spots around the greens and fairways. This course could be the best of JBSA courses if they would just focus on the course (roll the greens & mow down the super high weeds) and not worry about “other things.” In c…

I’ve played at several military golf courses across Texas, and unfortunately Gateway Hills at Lackland AFB falls short in nearly every category. The greens are wildly inconsistent—overgrown making putting a frustrating guessing game. It’s clear the course isn’t being maintained to the same standard as others like Randolph. Fairways are rough, bunkers neglected, and overall it feels like upkeep is an afterthought. On multiple visits, I’ve had trouble locating anyone to check in or ask for assistance. When someone is around, they’re not particularly helpful or welcoming. It’s a shame, because t…

Military couese arent often great but this time Lackland charged $48 on a weekday. So we're a little overcharged I get but then when you get on the course you will find out that the cart paths end in a pile of weeds, leaky sprinkler, thats jormal but heads piles of water in the miffle of the fairay, and believe it or not bunkers with piles of weeds and grass growing in them.

I haven't been here yet, I was just interested in pricing. However, it looks very clean and pristine. Update: They rent golf clubs here from beginner to intermediate if you happen to need some. Like $10 bucks or so.
