In summary

Lonnie Poole Golf Course is praised for its well-maintained grounds, challenging layout, and friendly staff, making it a popular choice in the Raleigh area. The course offers a variety of amenities, including a pro shop, practice facilities, and dining options, with scenic views that enhance the golfing experience. However, some visitors have noted issues with the pace of play and walking distances between holes, as well as occasional dissatisfaction with the cost of services and tee time availability.

Very fun course, quite challenging. Practice facilities are great. Pace of play was great even though it was very busy. The pro shop has a sold selection. Good options for food at the turn with ready made hotdogs and wraps or food made to order. All in all a great experience and I look forward to golfing here again in the future.

The course is very well maintained, as expected for a university affiliated course. The shop and staff are friendly and go out of their way to be helpful. However, fair warning: this is a hard, *hard* course. The bunkers, OOB zones, and heavily sloped roughs make for a really tough experience for beginners like me - which unfortunately I got the bad end of. I can't fault it for that. The service in the shop is very comprehensive for just about anything you'd need from club repair to fitting. I'm excited to start lessons here soon as well.

NC State’s Lonnie Poole Golf Course is one of the most enjoyable public courses in the Raleigh area. The course is fair but still provides a solid challenge, with a great mix of risk/reward holes and thoughtful design throughout. The natural areas around the course make it feel separated from the city despite being so close to downtown. Be prepared for a long walk, but the layout is worth it. Hole 11 has an outstanding view of downtown Raleigh and the skyline — easily one of the best views from any course in the area.

5 stars! Bucket list course! Very challenging yet very playable in immaculate condition. Home of the Wolf Pack, the clubhouse is fun to wander around in. Bring your camera, there is wildlife everywhere. Front 9 has 3 par 5's and 3 par 3's which is tons of fun.

Golf course itself is a lot of fun and in great shape. My gripe is that I booked the earliest tee time. So I showed up there was a frost delay which is fine. So I waited and then they let me know the course was opening up so I got a small bucket and went to play my round. After rushing through the small bucket I went to hole one where some older gentlemen were telling the starter how everyone was going to go out that day. So basically a patron let the starter know that I was not going out first, which he did not object to, and then I went out in the 5th group that morning. I then spent the ent…

Tough greens to read. But a great track and alot of fun to play. Played after a day of rain so conditions were cart path only which didn't help the score and didn't get any didn't roll out at all - lots of plugged balls. But despite that, it was easy to appreciate the layout and design of the course.

First time playing this course, and I would not recommend it for beginners. I’m an experienced golfer and shot a 96, part of that was due to my own mistakes and part of that was due to the difficulty of this course. I’m giving the course 4 stars because there is not a chipping green. The greens are fast and firm, and the fairways are very nice as well. Make sure you head up to the restaurant to eat, they have a sit down style of restaurant or you can get it to go. Based on previous reviews, I didn’t experience slow play all that much. Maybe 2 minutes for a group to finish, but we were actuall…

Ridiculously beautiful and playable course. Several wide fairways, lots of variety in course layout, fairly well maintained. I don’t recommend walking however as it’s a decent hike between some of the holes. Plus the carts have GPS screens with real-time distances.

Very nice staff at the NCSU Lonnie Poole golf store. The gentleman helped me find exactly what I needed for gifts. Beautiful 18 hole course and nice layout.

Course is in good shape and staff is friendly. However pace of play was terrible, 9 holes took over 2.5 hours and with the twilight rate being $95, not a great deal.

Chris is the pro shop really helped me out! I had booked a tee time for Sunday, but I thought I booked it for Saturday! My friend and I were walking out the door Saturday to head to the course when I realized the mistake. I called the course to see if there was anything we could do. Chris was extremely helpful and accommodated us despite the mistake being my fault. Had he not been able to make it happen, I would not have been upset. But he really pulled some strings and told me not to worry! Thanks Chris we had a wonderful time 🤝 Jack

I expect better from a $100 course. Sandy areas and grounds need some repair on some fairways and greens. Service from the pro shop is terrible. They look like they hate their job and work there for free golf.
