In summary

Mary Calder Golf Club is praised for its affordability, friendly and accommodating staff, and approachable layout, making it a great option for novice golfers and those seeking a relaxed game. The course's unique industrial setting next to a paper mill adds a distinctive charm, though some visitors note that the fairways and greens can be rough around the edges. While most find the course well-maintained for the price, a few have encountered issues with course conditions and customer service.

We were delighted to discover the Mary Calder Golf Course, an historical gem tucked right next to an industrial paper mill—literally! You drive past smokestacks and tanker cars before turning in at the last second, which makes for one of the most unusual settings we’ve ever experienced on a golf course. But once you’re on the first tee, it’s oddly charming. We couldn’t help but look up who Mary Calder was and found out she was the wife of Alexander “Aleck” Calder, president of the Union Bag & Paper Company (now part of International Paper). Union Bag & Paper was founded in 1936 and the golf c…

All the bad reviews paid <$50 and expected a 9 hole course to play like Pebble Beach. Course is in good shape, especially for the price! Fun layout and being next to the paper mill is honestly kind of fun. Steve at the pro shop is also hilarious.

Played for the first time early this morning. Paul helped me at the pro shop. I gotta tell you, I love his honesty. I was advised of the conditions prior to play. Here’s what I’ll tell you… were the tee boxes a little rough and fairways a little rough… sure, I’ll give you that. However, the greens… that was impressive! This course is 10000% playable. Great value for the money. Hoping they get their equipment back to snuff, because if this was bad, their good must be great. Also… loved the industrial feel with the local plants and what not. It felt like Savannah. Can’t wait to play again and up…

Well, I hate giving bad reviews however, the course is in terrible condition. Unfortunately it's the worst course I've ever played. Fairways were over grown, greens were scorched. Also, beware if you're playing 18 the back 9 is just the front 9 but from the Blues. This wouldn't be a problem if they made that clear since that's not a normal course thing. It does state this on their website. But unless you go there to read about their course you wouldn't know. The photo between the feet is in the MIDDLE of the fairway. Well all of the photos are from middle of Fairways. Edit: It rains on every…

Fun little golf course... reminds me of the little Par 3 course I learned to play on in Houston. Greens aren’t immaculate, but I didn’t pay for that. Just a fun round of golf. It’s in the middle of a paper mill, so be prepared for that, but it was fun and cool to be up close to the industry

Proper muni! Great layout, some fantastic mature tree lined holes, great greens and bunkering. Was very rough around the edges the day I played, fairways and greens weren’t great but still a real pleasure.

Whoever is working the pro shop / answering calls, was VERY rude. I have a rain check from Mary Calder that just expired, so I was calling to see if they would honor it. The woman had the worst attitude. Im not upset that they wouldn't honor it, but to be talked to the way that she did is not acceptable. When I told her she was being very rude for no reason, she hung up? I was left a little confused as to why she acted that way. Either way, the course is pretty decent for the price, but they get a 1 star because of this interaction.

Great 9 hole course and the price is right. Plays as an 18 hole course. The people are fantastic and the pro is one of the very best in the country! I just love this course. It plays easy and also plays somewhat difficult. Perfect course for the novice golfers. If you are in need of a lesson? Paul will amaze you with his ability to teach, he can fix any swing flaws. He fixed me & I was really bad. I shoot in the 70s now but before Paul I was 80+. He's absolutely the very best! If you're visiting Savannah and want to play a round I'd strongly suggest you play this course!
