In summary

Refuge Golf Club at Gulf State Park is appreciated for its scenic location, friendly staff, and reasonable pricing, making it a suitable choice for a casual round of golf. However, many visitors have noted that the course conditions, particularly the fairways and greens, require significant maintenance, with some areas being overgrown or poorly maintained. Despite these issues, the overall experience is enhanced by the welcoming atmosphere and enjoyable layout.

I have been playing Golf for 38 Years and this is by far the worst course I have ever played. At least 12 of the Holes Don't have a real Fairway. Either it is Dirt or grass is so High it is like playing out of the Rough. Stay away from this course unless you just want the experience of playing worst golf course in the South east. Hole 8 has a big Hole in the middle of the Fairway about 20 Yards from 150 yard Marker. I can only assume it is a Gopher Hole. Picture was taken on August 20th..

The price to play was good. It cost us $70 total for 18 holes and the cart. Very pleased with the price. The fairways however were a different story, they need some serious attention. Not every fairway was the same but all did need some work. The greens and the tee boxes were very well maintained. All in all a nice course and the staff was very nice and the other folks playing were all great. I would play it again, I just hope the fairways are in better shape.

Wish i could do 3 and a half stars for what it was- First let me say i live on a golf course in Georgia... I was able to get through Refuge18 holes- in 2 hrs and 3 minutes. Yes, 2hrs and 3 minutes. This is a state park course.- -- If you want to play all day and have perfectly manicured everything(and feel like a millionaire -even though you aren't)- this is not the place to play. Being able to adapt to any course is part of playing golf. yes, the greens are thick, and slow, But I found them to be a welcome change of pace, and a fun challenge. Pretty sure Bobby Jones didn't play on perfectl…

We had a great time. Loved the course. It is the easiest to navigate that we have played. Yes, they are recovering some grass loss in a couple of fairways, but the soil is sand and very easy to hit off of. Water is only really in play on one hole. Fairways are generously wide. The snack bar cook is AN ACE! Best Rueben sandwich I've had in years. We only question some of the par 4 lengths, which seemed a little long. We had a great round and are eager to play this course again.

It has potential to be a beautiful golf course but many of the greens had very rough spots and dead grass. A water cooler on stands on maybe every 3rd hole would be awesome! The course has some very scenic spots!

I played 3 rounds there this week. An awsome course with beautiful scenery thats close to the beach. The greens are a bit slow and some of the fairways are a bit rough, but the course more then makes up for that with a courteous staff and a fair price. I will be back next time we are on the gulf.

We came all the way from Illinois to play golf here. No its not of PGA quality, but the staff was super, they have clubs that you can rent, and the French Fries are great. One more state Little H can check off that he golfed in. thank you Refuge Golf Club.

-Pro Shop staff nice - course is in terrible shape, grass not mowed, weeds have almost taken over bunkers, grass on greens is half dead. It’s like the maintenance staff was fired or quit. It’s like the folks running it have no clue how to maintain a course.

This is my second year here to play and for the course the price is to high, the grass on the sides of the fair way is to high. Several green are in bad shape, I have played many courses and this one by far is to much money for the course.

Fairways are not in great shape. Greens are way too long, which is inexcusable, seeing that putting is half of the game. Not worth the money.
