San Jose Municipal Golf Club

A typical municipal course, not much hazards, but a plain and simple layout. Luckily, the day I played here was a raining but sunny 🌞 afternoon, so pretty lovely 🌹 The blue sky and white clouds, just what you may need after a long week; remember to look to the right on your right hand side, when you hit your 2nd shot on Hole 18, the scene of the valley is unbeatable.

Used to practice several times each week at range and believe 'Top Tracer' is was good added benefit. However, went yesterday to realize amplified music was being played via mounted speakers which was super annoying. Music played was terrible selection and isn't conducive for serious golf improvement. I won't be visiting this range any longer...

This review is for the driving range. It’s a range with two levels so can take a lot of people. It’s usually mostly full all the time but there is always a few spots available. The ball dispenser area is always a bit dirty and always have a bit of water flowing out from the back somewhere. The mat on each spot is a little worn out. There is no T available if you want to hit off of the T. They have a screen at each spot to help with your hitting and tracking of the ball which is awesome. The screen at some spots are not working so you have to find a a spot that is working.

San Jose Muni is a really nice TopTracer driving range with 2 levels. The range itself is very wide and has multiple target flags at various distances. The tee mats are a little tired on the lower deck but its an opportunity to practice when your ball ends up in a bad lie on the course. One good thing is that the direction you hit balls into faces roughly north. So, no matter what time of day it is, you don't have the sun blinding you. Wind direction changes fairly often though. I really love this facility. No frills, but everything for the novice to professional. Great driving, chipping and putting resources. Fully stocked pro shop, fitting resources, clinics and lessons. Greens fees are reasonable, the restaurant has good food at reasonable prices and the staff friendly and helpful. I was there on a cold, but sunny afternoon in Feb and the grounds looked great. If you're looking for a reasonably priced, casual day of golf with full service facility I can think of no better place.

Terrible condition on the course, too many bald patches, weed growing, greens are bumpu and bruised currently. Worst is the new employee at the pro shop, first name CARA (asian lady). She seems to be new on the job and in the industry most likely. As soon as we were up on the tee, she stepped out of the pro shop with a rangefinder, looked at the group ahead of us and told us "tee off, they are at 230". This bias from her was really upsetting, especially since miss Cara whatever had no business coming out of the pro shop from her desk and asking us to hit the group ahead of us....I am a 2 freak…

Not the first time I’ve been here, not the first time employees look miserable to be here. The young lady scoffed at me when I politely declined to provide my email address. I come here to have fun, it’s my one day to play golf. It would be nice to have friendly staff. Not people that clearly don’t want to be here. Plenty of jobs that don’t require you to be here at 630am on a weekend.

Well I like the improvement to the short game practice area, well what use to be.... Now it's a snack shack. Looks nice, although I also guess we (Range Rats) are paying for it... $$$16 for a medium bucket??? Are these gold plated golf balls? They look like the same balls from last year... I think I said last year when rates when up I was going to reconsider where I practice. Well San Jose, you made my choice very easy. Good course, fair condition. Pretty good greens for a muni. Mix of long and short holes, nice range facility. Well stocked pro shop, and a nice cafe/bar area. The staff has usually been pretty friendly and helpful. Play can be a little slow. Ample parking, and nice practice green.

Update - 9/18/2020 from 1 to 4 stars - It's COVID-19 and I found a T-time at noon with discounted price for $33 walking, so I took it to try out to see how it plays. The pro-shop was quite efficient, they bummed my single T-time @ 12:45 to join the group of 2 some earlier, so I got out early, that's quite nice. The 2 youngsters I played with were quite nice. The fairways and greens were very excellent for this time of year, early fall? The round went just right, it could be faster providing it's on a Thursday, little over 4 hours. Great place for beginners, green is ok but some fairways needs to fix, nice atmosphere, friendly staffs. The price is average.
