Tecolote Canyon Golf Course

Worst golfing experience of my lifetime. This place should be shuttered - especially during construction. Mud tee boxes on a 45° angle, a dump truck driving down the fairway, even playing through an active construction area with workers laboring. Insane it’s open let alone charging $40 for 9 holes. Shame on the owner.

Very fun course with some NARROW fairways and water hazards, which makes for a really interesting game. Course is a victim of city work right now, so it's only 9 holes(can play twice for 18). But I really feel the bad reviews on here as of late are overreactions from people who can't seemed to appreciate a good course if it slapped them in the face! I can't wait to play the full 18 when it reopens in the spring. Check this course out!

Played course in March 12, 2024. I will say I appreciate the course squeezing me in to play without a designated tee time. The guy in the pro shop was nice. However, I will say the clubhouse has a really old stench to it. The course practice areas are slightly below average with a driving range that hits off mats. As for the course it could be better. Golfed here a week or so ago and can say this is hands down the worst condition course in SD. I don’t blame the workers or staff which were nothing but great to work with but with the city tearing everything out the course should be shut down until after the work is complete. Construction makes the course a walking hazard with equipment everywhere and mud all over the place due to heavy equipment tearing everything up. I would highly recommend to steer clear of the course and spend your money elsewhere where.

Honestly, don’t get me wrong tecolote has some advantages. I signed up for 2 memberships, mainly to use the driving range, they offer a bucket of balls a day with a membership. But they didn’t tell me the course was under construction when I signed up. If it rains one day of the week they close the range for 4 days after that. It rained a couple days and it’s been closed for two weeks. Crazy part is I’m paying 120 dollars a month and only get to use half of the month, no discount or voucher nothing. I’ve always loved Tecolote, it’s a fun layout tucked into the canyon, and for years it’s been one of my favorite spots to play and practice. Unfortunately, over the last 5–6 months, the course has really gone downhill. I understand they’re doing maintenance, so only 9 holes are open right now, but even beyond that, the overall experience has slipped. Prices have been raised to a level that just doesn’t feel worth it. A big part of Tecolote’s appeal used to be the range membership, but even that has taken a hit, the price went up, and what used to be a large bucket is now just a medium. It fee…

I get that the course is under construction- but the overall conditions are about as bad as it gets. Sideways tee boxes, extremely bumpy greens, and the staggered tee times to play the back nine just doesn't work. I took three friends to play here yesterday and was extremely disappointed, especially charging $45 per person after 1 pm. With other great short course options like Lomas, Mission Bay, Oaks North, etc, they should be charging $15 until the full course is playable again.

Very challenging course with narrow fairways and no forgiveness. Plays in under 3.5 hours. Lost more balls here than in any other course. Lots of dry patches but the back 9 is in great shape.

I see why there are so many open tee times. Save your money and put it towards a nicer course. Hard, mostly dirt, tee boxes. The course would be a lot more fun if the conditions were better than poor. I hope it turns around at some point.

Course is in rough shape. Construction everywhere. That would have been nice to know before showing up. Cant believe i spend $35 on 9 holes.

I like this course for 3 reasons: 1. It's centrally located. 2. The price is fair. 3. It's an old school course where every hole is different. Also, the pro shop manager Jonah is always friendly.

The city is redoing water lines so you can only play holes 1-5, then 15-18. You can pay for 18 and just loop it, but the course quality was extremely poor. They mentioned the course will close in a year for the city to redo all the water lines and it feels like they are just letting the course die out until then- in terms of maintenance. Overall, it felt extremely over priced for the current conditions
