In summary

Iron Horse Golf Course receives praise for its friendly and accommodating staff, as well as its challenging layout and convenient location. However, many visitors express disappointment with the course's current condition, citing issues with fairways, greens, and overall maintenance, particularly given the high green fees. While some appreciate the unique layout and amenities, others feel the course requires significant improvements to justify the cost.

Only giving it a 2 because of the layout. Atrocious conditions on most holes. Winter or not. Plenty of courses in DFW to play that are in good shape in the winter. Little to no grass on multiple fairways. Tee boxes the same. Most of the greens are beat up and roll terrible. And you charge $90?? Not worth half the price right now. This used to be an awesome course. Really a shame to see it this bad.

Very friendly staff! Played a 2 man scramble over the weekend. Greens in good shape. A couple of fairways had some issues. However nice tract. You will enjoy. Convenient location off off 830 & rufe snow .

The only good thing about this course is that the staff is very friendly. However, the course has many areas that could be improved, especially considering the price you pay. Bear Creek, Fossil Creek, and even Champions Circle are much better options. The fairways range from average to poor, with many areas lacking grass and proper maintenance. Several fairways run right next to other holes, which creates confusion as carts from different holes cross paths. The routes between holes are also poorly marked. The greens are acceptable but nothing special. The screen on my golf cart was not worki…

We went out for a nice game of golf, so we decided on Iron Horse. Oh, how they talk about how great this course is now! What a JOKE! $80 to play on a course with a number of fairways that are like crap. Rocks and hardened mud, ruts. The course is in terrible shape, not good enough for the full price. A discount would have been nice, or even word of mouth about the terrible shape the course is in. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY on this course. Wait about 2 years before playing there.

I would not recommend Iron Horse, especially for $80 a round. The tee boxes had the only grass in great shape, however I could not say the same about the fairways or greens, they were in very rough shape, most of the fairways were dead grass with some dirt and mostly rocks. The “new” course layout is atrocious, way too much driving to get to the next hole, with no clear direction on where to head. The clubhouse was clean and the food was good, even though the fryer was down. Staff was friendly and easy going.

Came from the panhandle to play this course. I probably won’t play this course again as too many fairways are being repaired with no discount to compensate. The greens were fine. The driving range has no grass; you are basically hitting out of the dirt. The “satellite” carts don’t have any markers on the course, so it is unclear when your cart will timeout. There was a lot of trash on and around the course. I feel like the green fees are too high for what the course delivered. However, you will get to use all of your clubs on this course. It is a challenging course with some tight fairways in…

We help run a Restoration Golf league for our clients in the restoration, environmental, contents, insurance, CRE, etc. Out of all the golf courses we’ve played at this year Iron Horse Golf course had the best customer service. They helped us with everything and made it a point to check in on us. Thank you Nick Hempel. We will definitely be returning and referring your course.

Recently worked with Nick to plan and successfully host a special golf outing to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday. Nick did an amazing job from start to finish and everything went of without a hitch. We had catering taken care of as well as all of the things we asked for. It was an amazing, wonderful and special family event. We were so incredibly pleased. Thank you Nick for making this event happen flawlessly.

I recently played the course for the 1st time. The pros: the greens were in great shape and fair. The course layout is challenging but not overly so. The cons: as others have complained, many of the fairways are in terrible shape. The driving range was limited to hitting off mats. The marking on the tee boxes is absurdly hard to find. The markers are tiny and it's difficult to differentiate between colors. In summary, if the course were more reasonably priced, I'd be much more forgiving of the shortcomings. But paying over $90 for a Friday morning round, given the shape of the course, was r…

Update: I played here on 3/1/26 and like i said before the staff was and is top notch. However holes 12,13 and 15 are really in bad shape and i don’t know if anything can be done to save it. These three holes run along creek and they are obviously in areas where the creek can flood over and wash away any grass that’s there or it’s down to such a dirt on 15 that even a well placed good T-shirt hits the dirt and it’s as hard as concrete and can bounce into the creek on the left. I don’t know if there’s anything that can be done that creek can overflow in a moment notice and wash away any grass s…

Course is not in good shape. Many fairways have dirt and gravel throughout. They have done poor watering around as it does not appear any grass will be growing anytime soon. The greens were like playing on cement as there was little to no control when just tapping a putt. Overall poor experience and I would not recommend to anyone wanting to play a decent course. Was not worth the $57 per player we paid. Very disappointing.

Gorgeous course and Clubhouse. Great clean range and practice green. The course layout is beautiful and loved driving near beautiful houses. Kind staff, great patio, excellent breakfast burrito. And the train car was an nice surprise to get the refreshments. Definitely on my list to come back. Good price for a beautiful public course.
