In summary

Penobscot Valley Country Club is praised for its scenic layout, friendly staff, and as a charming venue for events like weddings, with many guests appreciating the efforts of the staff to provide excellent service. However, some golfers have expressed concerns about the condition of the greens and fairways, noting issues with maintenance and playability. Despite these criticisms, there is optimism about improvements under new management, and the course remains a popular choice for both casual and serious golfers in northern Maine.

Read the reviews before going. I went to this course based on its passed reputation. I had 2 rounds booked (36 holes) and ended up play 4 holes total. The course is completely unplayable, the greens are so rough and they are just soaking them hoping they will fill in. The fairways are in terrible shape I couldn't even play preferred lie if I wanted too. I should of read this year's reviews before going because they are accurate to the state of the course.

A little rough around the edges but the Donald Ross design doesn't disappoint. Fair off the tee, greens are in great shape. The breaks are there daring you to play all that break. The staff are very helpful and welcoming to wandering golf types.

Greens had been recently aerated and were very sandy. Grass had also been cut really short on the greens. Staff didn’t tell us about the aerated greens and we paid full fees. Other local courses are in much, much better shape. You’re better off playing elsewhere.

Course was not in good shape. Most greens had bare spots. Fairways were dry and dead.

We had our wonderful wedding reception here this weekend. The staff was awesome (especially Dylan), the food was terrific, the venue looked great, very reasonably priced, and they got us in quite last minute. Our evening was pretty much perfect! PVCC and Dylan helped make our night everything we have wanted. Thank you!

Nice course but the greens need serious work. If they could fix that then it would be wonderful.

My husband's class reunion was held there. Lovely place, but there was no air conditioning. They did have a split system, but it was so new that it hadn't been inspected for use.

Had our wedding here, hands down one of the best decisions we made in the planning process! Christine was an absolute treasure, such a valuable asset in the planning process! Great ideas and suggestions about how to save money overall with the wedding, how to make it about us with favors and centerpieces, etc. She was wonderful! Chef Dave made special dinners for special diets, so incredibly thoughtful! The rest of the staff were amazing! Gail and Mary Kate were excellent servers that night, too. Hubs can't wait for his free season of golf!!

My wedding took place at the Penobscot Valley Country Club on 11/6/21. It was an absolutely magical day. The venue itself is gorgeous with the perfect backdrop for wedding photos. We were able to use the facilities all day long to get ready, which was important since we had a large wedding party and accompanying guests. Christine was with us every step of the way. Having her there gave us peace of mind. We didn't have to worry on the day of because we knew Christine would make sure everything went smoothly and she really did. Clean up was organized by Christine and her crew. Everyone was very…

I liked the layout and the options for several tee lengths, but the unkempt bunkers and terribly bumpy with missing grass on the greens made it very difficult to putt. My father-in-law spoke with the guy in the pro shop and he said it's been recently purchased by a new owner...and they're planning to restore it to it's previous glory. Fingers crossed that happens.

This course had some of the worst greens I have putted on ever, rippled bare spots bumpy and all greens were like this . Sand traps most upkeep with grass crabgrass small rocks and unkept. I don’t recommend anyone spend your hard earned money to play there. All 18 equally poor. So disappointing

The course has come along ways since the beginning of the year! My compliments to the hard working crew! I would also like to compliment the bar staff for always giving good service with a friendly smile! My compliments also to the chef! Thank you for making my favorite salad, a Border salad, upon request! It was yummy! My husband and I usually eat after golfing and the food has been delicious! Not to leave out anyone, the pro and his staff are also why this golf course is a favorite place to golf!
