What People Say

In summary

The Woodlands of Van Buren is praised for its friendly and accommodating staff, as well as its challenging and scenic course layout. However, many visitors express concerns about the course's condition, noting issues with tee boxes, fairways, and greens, which some feel do not justify the current pricing. While the clubhouse and amenities receive positive feedback, the need for course maintenance and improvement is a common theme among reviews.

Better than last year but still needs a lot of work. I’ve been playing here regularly for the past 5 years and the course has really deteriorated over that time. Tee boxes were in really bad shape. Fairways were pretty decent with most of the burned out spots recovered. Greens were recovering from aeration with most of the really bad spots healed from last year; very very slow though. Need to be mowed and rolled desperately. I really like the course layout and hope the can get it back to it’s former condition.

First time playing woodlands. I really enjoy the layout. Course was in pretty rough shape. I think it’s a little overpriced for the current conditions. With that being said I can see the potential. The staff was very nice and pleasant and even the pro shop told us the course was in rough shape. Would play again when I know it’s in top shape.

First the good- great staff, good food, nice course layout. Now the bad Worst condition of any course I have ever played. Hit the ball on the green- had to move ball so I had grass to putt in between the ball and the hole. Tee boxes all torn up. New holes hadn’t been cut for some time - fairways were deplorable. I played a solo 18 tonight passing through town. The kid in the proshop warned me that the course had gotten really burnt last week in the heat…and it for sure had. The fairways were fried (as seen in the photos). The greens still rolled alright and didn’t seem to be in that rough of shape. This course is tight af. Definitely can’t spray the ball around here. I played the tips (7,000 yards) and definitely enjoyed the layout of the course. The scenery was beautiful and the holes were unique with water, rolling hills, and the fairways were tight. All of the staff I ran into on the course was s…

I recently played a round here for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed the course. Despite my unfamiliarity, I only lost a handful of balls, which is always a plus! The course was lush and very well maintained throughout. The pro shop was well-stocked with a great selection of merchandise, and the snack bar offered hot dogs, sweets, and salty snacks, along with a variety of brews, perfect for a mid-round refuel. My only minor complaint was the golf cart; it squealed quite loudly when accelerating and roared at takeoff, almost like it needed a custom exhaust. Just old carts. I'll be back. It…

I wouldn't play this course again, no beverage cart on the course during the blistering heat, they ask that you not bring your own water, nobody at the half way house, it was virtually impossible for the guy at the counter to smile, customer service has been lost in this world. The course is not in good shape at all. Take a ride up north and play the beeches, extremely friendly, cost effective and a great course.

We chose Whittaker Woods for our July 2023 wedding week, from scheduling various rounds of golf for our guests and bridal party to hosting our wedding reception. I can't say enough about Rik Durkin, who met our every need. He is the most accommodating, flexible, responsive, dependable, diligent, hardworking, genuinely kind human being, and made planning our destination wedding a breeze (we live in CO). He made it clear to us every single time we spoke that he was passionate about making our day everything we wanted it to be, and singlehandedly oversaw every detail. Rik is an absolute gem. Bey…

Had a group of 8 players. We were told the course was in better condition than 2024. Totally wrong, 1/2 of fairways were burnt and very little grass. Greens were only good on a few spots. And all of that for $95.00 a player. Think twice before playing here. Player be ware

Heavy rain the night before made it cart path only, very soggy. The cart gal and the pro shop attendant were very courteous and helpful. The course was challenging, the tee boxes need attention, and the rough was thick. I would return to see how the course plays in dryer conditions.

I’ve been coming here while on vacation for the last several years. It sounds like they’ve been trying to make improvements but the fairways and tee boxes still need a lot of work. Greens are slow. The bunkers are complete shit. The positives of this course are the layout, which is a good mix and challenging. The staff - all very friendly. No cart girl but a nice little clubhouse at the turn. Nice bar at the main clubhouse. Unfortunately the price is still too high for what you’re getting for this course. They have a bit of a corner on the market here so I guess they can get away with it. I’ll…

Would only be a 1 star if it wasn't for the employees working there. The course is tough obviously, lots of tight tee shots and blind shots. Would be fun if they put some work into it but it's in miserable shape. Not worth the $70 we wasted. Probably the worst shape course I've ever played in 20 years. Heard it's under new management, which it desperately needs. Pictures of a typical tee box and fairway

Took my husband for fathers day Course wasn't is the condition I expected for the price to play. Many of the greens had large marks and tee boxed (ladies particularly) were is terrible shape. I'm also not a fan if paying 90$ per person and there be no starter definitely seems to be run like a walk on course lots of back up. I will say if they can get the condition up to par this is a very challenging course have to be able to hit some straight balls. The club house and halfway house was nice and well stocked. The employees were ever nice too.
