In summary

Tobacco Road Golf Club is highly praised for its unique and challenging layout, with dramatic elevation changes and visually striking waste areas that create a memorable golfing experience. The course is noted for being in excellent condition, and the staff is frequently commended for their friendliness and professionalism. While the course offers a rewarding experience for skilled golfers, some players find the numerous blind shots and strategic demands challenging, particularly for beginners.

Tobacco Road Golf Club — February 2026 Review We teed it up at Tobacco Road in mid-February 2026, and let’s just say the weather leading into the trip had us second-guessing the decision. Cold, gray, less-than-ideal conditions all week. But golf karma is real — the sun broke through the morning we played, and from the moment we pulled into the parking lot, the energy shifted. The anticipation was already high… and then we saw it in person. The photos online? They don’t even come close. The scale. The elevation. The wild, sculpted waste areas. The visual deception. It’s part golf course, par…

Definitely an experience like I’ve never had before. Very hard course to play if you’re a beginner to average golfer. Lots of blind shots and short par 3’s give you the opportunity to get that 1. A ton of slope and hills on the greens make it challenging to putt on but stay on as well. Amazing time and spent most of my time in awe of the course! If you want a challenge, this is your huckleberry!!! Can’t wait to get back there to play it again!!!

If you are worried about playing this place in the winter. Don’t. Go ahead and book it now. It’s in amazing shape. It’s fun, and the staff are amazing. If you’re visiting ask the cart guy Ryan about golfing around North Carolina. Turns out he loves golf between Myrtle beach just like I do. I knew it was going to be good when he brings up Brick Landing. The people, layout, greens, and bunkers are all the best there is to offer. Thank you Tobacco Road for an adventure around the Sandhills. If you’re reading this review do yourself a favor and just go for it.

Would give 10 stars if able. I've played Pebble, Old Course, Kapalua, Carnoustie, and some other heavy hitter courses. I'm not flexing, just providing some background. Tobacco Road is among the top 5. If I shed historical cachet, and being honest with myself, Top 3. It is an amazing venue. Everything is just perfect. Love the giant waste areas, the odd-shaped and challenging greens, and the tee boxes being marked with farm implements. The spicy dog at the turn also added to the experience. Clubhouse is perfect for the course and the staff were friendly. I couldn't give you a favorite hole. I n…

Definitely worth playing! Some holes with blind shots can be annoying but it's the character of the place. Greens were fast. Staff was nice. Lot of elevation changes from hole to hole.

Absolutely amazing course. Risk/reward is insane. It's like Salvador Dali made a golf course. It was a bucket list course and now that I have played it I can only say it lived up to every expectation, even exceeded many. Staff was fantastic, friendly, informative, and kind. I will be back next time I get back stateside. DO.NOT.MISS.THIS.COURSE.

In the Top 5 of best golf courses I've ever played. The Fairways and greens were immaculate and greens were rolling perfect. First time playing here but my playing partner has played it several times so he was able to guide me on where some shots needed to land. Definitely playing again. Staff was great. Great golfing experience.

Just played Tobacco Road and… WOW. Felt like golfing on another planet! Every hole was wild, beautiful, and unforgettable — especially the 1st, 2nd, 13th and 14th! I've been itching to play the course ever since I heard about it on the potcast: "Chasing Scratch." (I even successfully tried the intimidating Chasing Scratch-Mike & Eli bomb drive on 13th to cut the hole in half 😅). Staff was amazing, and everything was unreal. Already planning my next trip. If you’re a golfer, this place is a must. #TobaccoRoad #ChasingScratch

Course was very disconnected. Better signage needed. Temporary clubhouse and dining. Cart person did not sell any alcohol. Could have used some! Difficult to figure out where to hit your ball. Most holes were blind shots. Better know how to play out of the sand. Not my kind of course.

Tobacco Road is a visual treat and physical challenge. The rough is, well rough, and strategic golf is rewarded. Almost all the greens are well protected and require accuracy and bold shots to make in regulation. We played less than a week after a full course aerification, and everything was in wonderful shape except the greens were still recovering from getting punched but not something anyone in my group cared about. (Also played for 1/2 price, so who’s complaining!) Unless you’re a single digit golfer, my advice is to just go out there to enjoy a unique golf experience and not worry about…
