What People Say

In summary

Sanford Municipal Golf Club is highly praised for its well-maintained greens, challenging layout, and affordable pricing, making it a favorite among both local and visiting golfers. The course, designed by renowned architect Donald Ross, features a mix of long and short holes with elevation changes that require strategic play. While the overall experience is positive, some players mention occasional slow pace of play and minor wear on tee boxes.

A real hidden gem. I cant believe I just played this course for the 1st time after living here for 18 years. An older layout, but VERY challenging. A good mix of long and short holes, small well kept greens that roll true, tight fairways that put an emphasis on accuracy, and lot of elevation changes. And the price...?All I can say is this is a MUST-PLAY!

Nice golf course with 18 holes. It is possible to play the game on foot or rent a cart. The course is nicely structured with long holes. Two holes are par 3's and the others are par 4's and 5's. I am a recreational golfer, great course for me.

Very cold day and windy but the course was in great shape. Expect to see a lot of fake flowers laying around the front nine due to the nearby cemetery. A lot of trees, but a lot of options to steer clear with a less aggressive shot.

It might seem out of the ordinary to give a municipal course a four, but I don't have the option for 4 and a half. I am trying to temper my rating with other courses nearby, but SGC is by far the best value for a golf course in the area. Right now, the greens and Fairways are in the best shape that I can ever recall seeing them. While it is by far not a perfect course, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better value I have recently traveled to several courses in the Raleigh area and easily paid 15 to 20 more dollars per round to play on courses that the greens are in terrible shape and fairways.…

Great course beautiful greens , great practice area . Just a fun course we really enjoyed it. But the best parts were the people, such hospitality not only from staff but from fellow golfers that we got to talk to. Thanks for a great experience

A beautiful course in a park-like setting. Very well kept. It demands a choice of club for almost every shot. Especially off the tee. No using a driver as your default club here. The employees are wonderful and the price is right. I highly recommend a visit.

Very nice little muni with decent greens, a chipping area, a driving range and a great staff.....but the price is the best part. It's hard to believe they can pull off that combination these days, but they do!! Keep up the great work!!

Fantastic golf course. Every time I play here I’m humbled by the beauty and the price. Walking during the week this golf course costs your wallet $14 for 18 holes. The course was designed by Donald Ross which anyone who’s a golfer knows that he’s one of the best architects to ever put pen to paper and turn it into grass. The course requires driver only on very few holes but more likely requiring you to lay up and really think about your golf strategy. Excellent golf course to work on course management as there’s blind tee shots elevated fairways and undulation throughout the course. The greens…

Part of me wants to avoid posting a review, because I really don’t want a bunch of people to find this gem! Went to play at Sanford GC today and it was, quite literally, amazing!! Imagine a well-kept course with smooth, firm greens, plush fairways, and a fun layout. That’s what you can expect here. Carts seem brand new and the price was so reasonable for a Saturday morning! I’m sure you can pay 4x down the road at Southern Pines or Pinehurst, but I doubt you’ll enjoy it any more than I did today in Sanford. Definitely coming back and adding this to my course rotation!

Easy course to play. Price includes cart, yet its walkable. Unfortunately this town owned course DOES NOT have an out house on it.
