In summary

Lockhart State Park Golf Course is appreciated for its peaceful setting, friendly staff, and variety of amenities, including hiking trails, a swimming pool, and camping facilities. Visitors enjoy the well-maintained, albeit short, trails and the unique features like the storytelling trail for children. However, some golfers have expressed dissatisfaction with the condition of the fairways, noting they are not well-grassed, which can affect play.

Hit this nearby park for the first time the day after Christmas. It is a small state park, probably most utilized for its nine hole golf course. Trails are limited, but well maintained and generally very easy to hike. There are educational markers and even a storytelling trail for the kids. It is dog-friendly, and my pup and I got in an easy 3 1/2 miles. It was uncrowded, and we probably encountered no more than 13 or 14 other hikers on the entire route. It is mostly shaded, although at this time of year, most of the leaves on the surrounding trees had fallen for the winter, of course. There a…

I enjoyed hiking the trails to take a break from the highway while on a roadtrip. It was well worth the $3 entrance fee. While I've seen prettier landscapes, the ones at Lockhart are decent. No waterfalls, apparwntly, the creek onky flows when it rains... But there are a few nice views from the higher elevations of the hiking trails. They have some flatter trails and a few that are more challenging. I hiked several as they were short. I managed to finish 5 in 30 minutes, and it was an enjoyable hike. Lockhart also has a golf course, camping spots, and a swimming pool (in season). It would ma…

I visited the park on Nov 5th, 2025. I first stopped by the nature center, which was still open. I picked up a few maps and got information about the park. The park was nice, and the staff were helpful. Then I drove to the trail area. The trails are really beautiful, but they are short, so I would say the hike is easy to moderate. I liked the layout of the park, and I recommend getting the park pass so you don’t have to pay the entry fee if you enjoy state parks and hiking.

First tome visiting and we love it. Great trails-some more challenging than others. Trail map is well labeled, and the trails as well. Camping sites look great-the entire area feels very safe.

Very peaceful. We stayed in an RV. Nice trails, small fishing creeks, sure to see wild life. We also visited the pool which had a friendly group working there. Park rangers and office personnel were helpful too. Small gift shop inside with a few necessity options but town is just a few miles down the road.

If you're trying to avoid the crowds and still have some nice outdoor time, this is a great park for a day or weekend visit. It's quiet, more rustic than some of the other state parks I've visited, and it has a pool! That's always a big plus for these hot Texas days. The staff was very friendly and welcoming and the welcome center had some great, affordable snacks and souvenirs. I was just visiting for a day to check the park out and hike the few miles of trail offered. I enjoyed my visit, but this park is definitely not a hikers park. The 9-hole golf course was a unique feature and the playgr…

Nice little park. We did not try out the pool or the golf course but the trails were nice, and the location to the town was good. Google maps had us go down the incorrect turn- in, and it was a bit of an issue with a 35ft trailer... But one of the park hosts (after-hours!) helped guide us through the overgrown trees and saved us from damaging our camper. Overall very pleasant experience, and we appreciated the quick downhill trails on the bikes

Crazy about all Texas State Parks. This one has some great picnic areas with a creek. Haven't tried the golf course. The swimming pool is wonderful. It is used by the community for lessons in the summer, so check the hours and access. Nice changing rooms, showers and lockers. The walking/hiking trails are well-marked.

Definitely a small park, but if you like quiet this is the place. Facilities are old but maintained. Some drop offs to the camping area are pretty drastic.

This park once had the highest elevation golf tee in Texas! Crazy. The golfers would then ride a trolley down the hill to the green. You can still walk the trail the caddies had to traverse to get to the bottom, appropriately labeled "Caddy" trail. TPW needs to change the rules to allow golf carts on at least some of the parks, instead of having a blanket rule outlawing carts across all of them. (Ironic that you can rent carts from them at this park to play golf ) I would imagine it's for safety concerns, but come on. There are many activities at state parks that are at least that dangerous. A…

Small campground for RVs and tents with nice network of hiking trails. Hike along the clear fork river or hike the CCC trail for switchbacks and elevation gain and loop back down the Caddy trail. Golfing too if you are into that but and swimming pool. I would live in Lockhart just to have this park nearby!

First time camping here and had a good time. There was a burn ban when we camped here which was a bummer. Campsite are pretty close to each so if you're bringing dogs, it's best that they do well when strangers are near. I'd love to come back and experience more of the trails and park.
