In summary

Mattaponi Springs Golf Club is highly praised for its well-maintained course, challenging layout, and scenic, secluded setting, which offers a peaceful golfing experience. The staff receives commendations for their friendliness and professionalism, while the clubhouse and amenities, including a golf simulator, add to the overall appeal. Some visitors mention occasional slow pace of play and note that the greens could be faster, but these do not significantly detract from the overall positive experience.

Just go! This is a fabulous course and well-maintained. Worth every penny. Here's a couple Pro tips, make sure and pick up your cart in the parking lot before going to the clubhouse. Bring lots of bug spray in case. And if you suffer from allergies, don't come near this place when the pollen starts coming down. This is a beautiful piece of property with a ton of Pine and other trees on it. The facilities were clean neat and well laid out. Service was impeccable and friendly. Carts are new and well-appointed. I found the tee boxes, greens, and yes, even fairways to be an excellent shape. Sand t…

Hidden gem! Attended an event here and was impressed by the quality of the course. Especially for the price. Also, the staff really took care of us. Will definitely be back!

As a golfer, I can honestly say Mattaponi Springs Golf Club is one of the best courses I’ve ever played. The layout is both challenging and fair, with dramatic elevation changes and stunning views on almost every hole. The fairways are lush and perfectly maintained, and the greens are fast, true, and a real pleasure to putt on. I love that the course feels secluded and peaceful, with no houses or traffic to distract from the game. The staff is always welcoming and professional, and the clubhouse has everything I need, from great food to a well-stocked pro shop. Every round I’ve played here has…

I’ve been playing here off and on for a couple of years now, and Mattaponi Springs really does it right! Tonight my husband and I tried out their brand new golf simulator and it was amazing! Garry met us at the bar, carried my clubs in, and got us all set up. We were able to get food and drinks brought right over to us. It’s basically your own private room! There are tons of courses to choose from on the simulator - from Augusta to Sawgrass to our very own Mattaponi. My favorite feature was being able to see a short replay of my ball strike. There was so much valuable information included in t…

First time playing the course. Drove 2 hours and it did not disappoint. I wish the greens were a little faster and the carts probably need an upgrade but they're still getting a 5 star. Great layout, challenging, well maintained, friendly staff. Would definitely play it again!!

Received a Gift Certificate to play Mattaponi Springs and will definitely return for more rounds in the future. Had my Son and Grandson with me for our 3-Gen outing and could not have had a better time. Staff was Great!! From Check-in to having a cold brew after the round, a truly wonderful experience! Course was challenging but not punishing. Fairways in great shape and even with some damage from too much rain, Greens were in excellent shape. One of the nicest Public Courses I have played in Virginia over my 77 years. Highly recommend the course!!

Great golf on a well cared for hilly golf course. Staff are helpful and attentive. The grill could be better. Food orders sometimes get lost and the burgers are sub-par (not a good thing for food).

Mattaponi was an excellent track! The course plays well and you need to make actual golf shots instead of "spray & pray" golf! The greens have a lot of variety of slope. They didn't have a range available the day we played and there was no starter or Marshalls which made for a 5+ hour round of golf. The kid in the "pro shop" (I put that in quotes because they were renovating and had the shop in the bar🤣) was our attendant, server, cook, and probably the only employee working that day! Paid $100 for a 8:30am tee time on a Sunday so let's not complain too much! Give this place a try but plan for…

A fantastic design in the middle of nowhere. Every hole presents an interesting set of choices - always challenging, but also fair. Every green has three tiers, so an accurate shot to the right part of the green will give the best scoring chance. The fairways and greens were in great shape, but some of the bunkers had weeds growing in them. They’ve upgraded many bunkers with soft, fluffy sand. Staff is welcoming and helpful. Greens roll true and are in great condition.

Pure golf in central VA. There are no homes, roads, or anything else near by so it's just you and the course, which is a nice change of pace from most places. Prices are in the middle of the road, however the clubhouse and facility are really top notch for a public course. Lots of elevation changes throughout the property, and some of the green complexes are pretty slopey.

This is absolutely one of the most gorgeous and challenging courses I have ever played. From tee to green this course is immaculate. This was one of my stops on a golf trip and it didn’t disappoint and was the highlight of all courses played. If you love the game of golf experience how a course should be maintained!

*** Updated *** I learned that sometime after I played the course and had the experience below that renovations were done to restore the greens. I returned a few weeks ago to see for myself and saw that conditions have greatly improved. The greens have been saved, other than a few patchy spots along the collar on a handful of holes. My only suggestion would be to speed the greens up, as they are definitely slower than average. I’d estimate they were running at a 9 at best. With that being said, the improved greens and other work being done on the course (I witnessed a lot of tree removal betw…
