In summary

Fort Sam Houston Golf Club receives praise for its well-maintained layout, friendly staff, and enjoyable amenities such as the chipping and putting greens and driving range. However, some visitors have noted issues with cart availability, course maintenance, and staff responsiveness. While many appreciate the improvements under new management, others have experienced challenges with course conditions and operational hiccups.

I enjoyed the layout and amenities of chipping and putting green as well as driving range available. The tee box, greens and fairways were in good condition. People were friendly. Had no problem with pace of play. Would come back again if the occasion arise.

Played here with my sister and brother both of them have never been on a golf course before, despite the reviews I went, everything was in excellent condition, from Tee boxes, fairway, and striped greens. Paid $35 for a twilight hour Tee time, played 14 holes, and my little brother and sister had a blast, will for sure be my go to course when I'm coming down from Florida to them down here in Texas.

For having not played golf, I had a great time on the course. My daughter is a golfer and was giving me pointers and said the course was nicely designed. We had a great afternoon golfing and everyone there from the course managers, store front, cart rentals and other patrons on the course were very friendly and helpful.

The course we played was Loma and not in the best condition. Some fairways had muddy spots from leaking water lines, there were large areas of crabgrass in the fairways, some greens had large bare spots, and others had very little grass. All the greens were playing very slow. The tee boxes were not set up for play. The markers left off the tee boxes. The drinking stations were in metal shack that made the water very warm. Ft Sam has two golf courses and are struggling to maintain them. Ft Sam leadership should close one to properly maintain the other.

Its a great course. But it's always something, last time there was no carts. this time the boys in the Pro Shop made it up to us but the cafe was closed due to some sort of an inspection. The tee boxes and fairways were really nice but the greens were wet and slow. And there was definitely some standing water

Went to play recently first time ever on the course, and as we get to the back 9 in the middle of hole 11 our cart dies. I tried calling the club house but it either just kept ringing or would give me a busy signal, thankfully some other guys gave us a tip on how to get the cart possibly running again. Then at the tee box for hole 12 it was dead dead. Finally the clubhouse answers and tells us they don't have anymore carts or anything and we're gonna have to walk the rest, fine I guess that's OK. As we continue walking the final 6 holes we start noticing carts everywhere that have been abandon…

Good place to enjoy 9 to 18 holes! La Loma is challenging yet, very doable. I was able to make birdie on hole 15 and it was my first time doing so at that hole. We played all 18 holes walking and it was indeed a hot day. Bring lots of water to stay hydrated. I will be getting a golf cart next time so we don't take so long to finish! Note: if you know you're not going to be done playing the 9 or 18 holes walking, you need to park by the Ft. Sam Houston Inn(hotel) because the gate gets locked at night.

Not playing there anymore. They ran out of carts for golfers. They had a school function and gave all the carts to spectators instead of paying customers. Good courses but there are plenty of them in SA.

Fort Sam Houston has a New Manager! And his focus is on both eighteen hole courses, demonstrating tenacity as well as concern for the benefit of military privilege. A breath of fresh air, not to mention the excellent shape the courses are in. Greens have improved tremendously, the bunkers are coming around. Enjoy your terrific golf opportunities at Fort Sam.

Salado del Rio at Ft Sam isn't in the best of shape, they are losing the greens and the fairways are in bad shape. The staff was very helpful.

Mold problem in the ladies dressing room and bathroom. It has to be a health hazard if you can see the ceiling tiles covered in it. Pro shop workers are generally kind and accommodating. Courses are decently maintained.
