In summary

Southwyck Golf Club is appreciated for its friendly staff and unique course layout, which offers a challenge to golfers of varying skill levels. However, many visitors express dissatisfaction with the course's condition, citing issues with bumpy fairways, poorly maintained greens, and inadequate groundskeeping. Despite some positive experiences, the overall consensus is that the course requires significant improvements to justify its current pricing.

I really want to give this place a better review because the people that work here are super nice and the course layout is unique, however for $70 this course is IMMENSELY overpriced. Every green looked like the attached photo and the fairways are like driving over hundreds of speed bumps. Someone could make a lot of money off this golf course if they came in and re-sodded the fairways and fixed the deadspots on the greens but until then this is an absolute LAST RESORT place to play. Course has potential but they are doing nothing to better it.

Front 9 is like playing golf in a pasture. Bumpiest golf cart ride in the middle of the fairway as you can imagine. Back 9 is a different course. Tee boxes are in horrible shape. Green sand on greens. Nice carts.

This course was once a wonderful golf course - home to the UofH golf team. It can only be described now as in a complete state of disrepair. The only reason to play here is because it is empty and you can get on almost anytime and play in under 3 hours. Be careful driving your cart on the “fairways”. Close your mouth tight or you will crack and/or lose teeth.

I mean where do I start. I paid $70 for a round of golf an expected a good course but man it was the complete opposite. To start the fairways are so bumpy and long grass Tee boxes haven’t been cut in weeks I wouldn’t even call those greens , greens Over all this course is not worth it! This is a $20 course

In February 2025, I had contacted Encore Leisure Group (ownership) to inquire what their plans were for Southwyck since the website claims "Enthusiastically Managed by Encore Leisure Group". As evidenced by my review and everyone else's, the course is not managed in any way, shape, or form. Dale Folmar (ELG) told me the following, "Thank you for reaching out on our info site to ask about Southwyck. Unfortunately, we're well aware of the decline there, but due to various factors. The owners of the Club had been seeking to sell it along with several other courses in Texas, and they have been ab…

Great for beginners and intermediate golfers. Wide open fairways allow plenty of room , yet link style setup allows a challenge to get the club in the ball with the right shot.

Well got the membership since it’s close and priced okay, but then I find out they close at 4:30???? Who in the heck, that works for a living , gets off at three to allow time to hit some balls??? Most work till 5-6. You pretty much will only have the weekend and no time to practice on the range throughout the week. Really starting to rethink this. Son getting out of school won’t even be able to take advantage of the unlimited range balls. The closing time is ridiculous!!!! And yes everyone’s course criticism is fair. Definitely needs work. If they don’t extend their closing time, I will need…

As of 1/4/26, this course is not worth the money. The greens are in very rough shape on nearly every hole. Clubhouse staff is very nice.

Actually the worst course I’ve ever played it’s no joke. You’re looking around, nothings available, you see this place is the only place with tee time…. There’s a reason why. The reviews are legit. 2.6 stars at the time of reviewing is generous.

Solid course layout, but could use more signage and a little better grounds keeping. Friendly staff and everything else was good. Could use a couple more signs bc the cart paths are not intuitive on a couple holes.

The staff are fantastic. They really make you feel like family when you play there. I got my first bird shot as a beginner in golf on a par 5 & I never looked back! The carts are detailed better than my own vehicle. Bev cart is constantly in rotation checking on you. Food is great & beer is cheap! Thanks Southwyck!

The greens and fairways are not in good shape at all. Well one green was in great shape! Cart girls don't pay attention to people on the tee boxes and will drive right in front of you! Cart was filthy! Had cigarettes and paper in the cup holders and the storage compartments! The staff was nice tho.
